“Friendly atmosphere and excellent service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2013

Just popped in for a quick drink on the way home but ended up staying for three hours and having a very enjoyable meal. We had lasagne and a rump steak burger which were both delicious and well presented. The bar and waiting staff are very friendly and efficient. Also 10% discount is available to students and NHS staff on production of i.d.
Would recommend this pub to locals and visitors to Newcastle.

“Cheerful, friendly place, love the new menu”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2013

I work nearby, so come here often for a drink or a meal. I've always enjoyed the Crows, but I have liked it much more since the recent renovation and updated menu. My favourite menu item there is the Salmon Linguini (a favourite amongst my colleagues as well.) I also really appreciate the small items they've added - mushrooms on toast, cod goujons, and hummous. It's nice to have some snack choices besides crisps. I think the guiltiest pleasure on the menu is the vegetarian 'fish and chips' ... which is really fried halloumi ... delicious, but definitely not for dieters.

It all tastes really nice, and the staff is very friendly.

Its definitely my favourite pub in the campus area - very cheerful place.

“Poor Sunday lunch”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 12, 2013

This was possibly the worst Sunday lunch I have ever had. It was cold. There was a chunk of beef which tasted processed and re-heated. It didn't really taste like beef. The roast potatoes looked shrivelled and re-heated, the mashed potato tasted processed and the green beans were cold and overcooked. Thin gravy was poured over it all. The only reasonable thing on the plate was the Yorkshire pudding which was probably frozen and re-heated.

When the waitress asked if everything was alright with our food, I didn't have the heart to say anything about it as she was really pleasant and I felt it wasn't her fault.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 28, 2012

I visited here right after reopening and a couple of weeks after that. Each time the paint smell was really off putting. The second time which was a Saturday, I tried to eat there which was a mistake. I ordered a steak which came completely cold, the grease on the steak was starting to get solid! My partner ordered Fish and Chips that you think no-one can get that wrong. Well in Crows Nest they can. Fish was horrible my partner did barely touched it and just had the chips. Let's not mention how late they were in cleaning the table we were sitting at, we almost cleared it ourselves.
Will never go back there.

“Updated to be upmarket? Not so much!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2012 via mobile

The staff said the menus were updated to take the place more upmarket? If that means you have to wait an hour for your food then it arrives on a wooden trencher then I guess she is right.

Don't like wooden trenchers.. medieval days are over thanks.

As the rankings state, a little overpriced, dull beer, pub grub with balsamic glaze .. yawn!
