This is a fantastic little coffee shop that is one of Newcastle's hidden gems.I say hidden as its in the basement of Elula gift shop in Ridley Place & you may have passed by without realising what you are missing.
Joe (aka Flatcap) is a skilled friendly barista and knows how to pull a fantastic espresso as well as many varieties of brewed coffee including some I had never seen such as the syphon filter!
He also serves a variety of food including Nachos which are very popular. My personal favourite are his home made fruit scones served with jam and cream... yum yum.
If you want a quality coffee served by a friendly knowledgeable barista in eclectic surroundings then this is definitely the place for you.
Hope you enjoy the experience.

Had a new experience last time we visited. Asked for Americanos but took up the offer of trying something new, siphon coffee. It is a bit like having a chemistry set on the table, complete with burner and was very glad that it was all done for us. But it was brilliant seeing this different way of making coffee and the taste was amazing. The siphon makes two generous size coffees, so good to enjoy with a friend. I've already got someone lined up to take there soon! Price is about the same as you'd pay for coffee at one of the chains, but that's all they have in common. If you love coffee, put this place at the top of your list.

Character, home baking, an amazing choice of specialist coffee blends and mad professor type paraphernalia more akin to a chemistry lab!
It takes a place like this to show us how good coffee can be when compared to the sterile production line of the usual coffee chains!

I discovered this amazing hidden gem on the Internet and made a point of visiting ASAP. When you go down the spiral staircase you arrive in a chilled out coffee heaven that seems miles away from the hustle and bustle that is just a few metres away! Great food and even better coffee brewed by an award winning Barista who knows exactly what he's doing. This is a place that I have recommended to many friends and will keep doing so.

Joe is a fantastic knowledgeable and award winning barista. But his skills don't stop there. He bakes some fantastic treats and there's always something from and a sandwich or some soup to a scone that he's applied his personal touch to. Besides this there's great locally sourced treats that are fantastic too.

As for the atmosphere it's unique, comfortable warm and friendly once you're in there you could be absolutely anywhere.

To be frank this place is one of the best you'll find and Joe is a great host, do youself a favour and pop in.
