Description: DABBAWAL - UK STREET FOOD PIONEERS All home-cooked, nutritious dishes that feed the body, and comfort the soul. Genuine Mumbai Street Food bringing complete satisfaction to those who want their food freshly prepared, and utterly authentic. True to the metropolitan roots of Mumbai’s dabbawalas, we opened our first restaurant in Newcastle’s city centre, upon the cobbles of High Bridge. Along with authentic dishes, the retro styling of High Bridge creates a cosy cocoon of traditional Mumbai chic.

Been to Dabbawal in newcastle a few times now and keep going back
Simply the best Indian food I've had in a uk restaurant!

The service is always good and they even do great cocktails !

I would recommend the Dabbawal grill for starter and Railway lamb curry simply delicious!

Don't get me wrong - first time i came here thought food was lovely but took the hubby last night as he'd heard so much about it was wasn't really bowled over!
Presentation was great but the food is a bit more formal and pricey to be called street food.
I had the signature salmon dish, which was delicious but very sickly so couldn't finish it. Hubby had the lamp chops, disappointing there was no sauce as such. but the lamb was cooked perfectly. The onion bahji was soggy and not crispy so a bit of a let down.
Service on the other hand was poor - we waited 10 mins to be seated without being offered a drink or a menu to look at, and when we ordered some more drinks to have with the mains we waited about 15 mins - they had forgot the order so i had to go and ask someone at the bar (after not being able to get anyone's attention for love nor money!). They had forgot what we wanted so had to retake the order.
it was nice but we wont rush back. It was also very rowdy with a big group of men next to us who were swearing constantly - the only time we could hear each other talking was when their tables mains came out and they all went quiet for 2 mins ha ha

Current, contemporary and atmospheric ! Thank goodness we have somewhere that competes with the best curry restaurants to be found in the UK right on our doorstep and in our city centre. Dabbawal offers the most delicious balance of flavours with fresh Indian street food at its heart.
What makes both restaurants unique is that not only is the food delicious but the quality and mixology of the drinks is amazing. The cocktails offered are created using the finest ingredients and the service is very swift. I have never been to an Indian restaurant and had a Lemongrass Collins or a daiquiri served with such precision.
I applaud this restaurant and the levels of service that it offers.
This is a restaurant that will be awarded the highest accolades im sure through the international restaurant guides.

fanatastic?

to say this visit was a shambles would be an understatement. booked a table for a friend's 30th birthday. table wasn't ready for over an hour. our party was eventually clumped together on a 'table' in the corner that was cleary a cloakroom. we were stood/ sat over people for over an hour. drinks orders were messed; at one pint the bar staff asked us how to make a cocktail we'd ordered?! after an hour and a half we had poppodoms. we received no apology, just excuses. eventually we walked out so I can't comment on the food

A busy Thursday night meant a half hour wait, so over the road to the Bacchus. Despite being very busy we were deal with quickly and yet we were not rushed. The quality of the sauces with the pappadoms was excellent and so too were the starters. The okra in lentil flour was very fine. Main courses were well presented and plentiful though not over facing. There is not a massive choice but I'm no great fan of massive choice. I'd prefer narrow and fresh. Excellent range of lassies too. Loved this place when it was the Flat Bread Cafe. The transition has been excellent... but what is that tv for?
