For a free museum it’s a bargain. It’s a small museum but well worth spending half an hour looking round. Went Sunday so had a steam train ride, good value, good fun. I’ll be going back!

A relatively small museum with a couple of activities for the kids in there. It was free so great value. We pod to ride the steam train which my five year old loved. Carriages were very clean and the rattle and rockin was very relaxing.

Came here while it was heritage open day and we never knew it was here until now. This is a very nice small museum with plenty to see and do. We really enjoyed the steak train ride as well. Definitely worth a visit with small children.

This small museum has expanded over the years, but don't be put off by entering what looks like a trading estate. Lots of interesting locomotives and artifacts inside including one of the Tyne & Wear Metro mock cabs and much more. Knowledgeable and very friendly staff who gave some of us a visit to their behind the scenes part of the museum so that we could see their Kitson locomotive. Take the train ride and look out for the "Tesco Tower" . Definitely worth a visit and our group came away very happy.

Excellent small museum full of info about George Stephenson. There is a heritage railway which offers rides on the train hauled by a restored steam engine. One ticket allows you to go up and down the line as many times as you like! There is a little tea room as well, quite basic, but home made food and snacks. There was the added bonus when we visited that it was over the weekend of the beer festival. Local bands playing (including a steel band!). Overall a very enjoyable day out. Free entry, but the train rides are ticketed (around £6 per adult).

Interesting little museum, good atmosphere and helpful and enthusiastic volunteers..
Nice spacious car park and a basic but somehow endearing little cafe, perhaps because they know what they've got and are not pretending to be something they are not, good on them !

This friendly little museum deserves to succeed, well worth a visit and your support.

In the summer holidays take the children here as it is an amazing place to visit and learn about the unique history and connections of the very first railways built here in Newcastle .

Being up in the Nirth East we took the opportunity to visit. Had a warm welcome from the volunteers. Started with a train ride then a tour around the workshops and a wander through the museum. Well worth the visit. Highly recommend for families too. Enjoyed a nice lunch in the cafe.

Have lived at the bottom end of the line for the last few years and often walk the dog along the footpath but have not visited the museum until today. We went because of the added bonus of there being a 1940's day there. The museum was small but excellent and the 40's displays only added to the interest. My wife attends 1940's events in Kent and was lucky to purchase another dress to add to her growing collection of 40's wear. Exhibits were beautifully maintained and museum gave the impression it was run by enthusiasts. Shame museum has limited opening hours but volunteers are hard to come by. Well worth a visit. We will be back soon for the train ride.
