Owner description: Grey's Monument is a Grade I listed monument to Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey built in 1838 in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It was erected to acclaim Earl Grey for the passing of the Great Reform Act of 1832 and stands at the head of Grey Street. In addition to being a great place to meet, Newcastle City Guides open this iconic monument on a number of days throughout the year. Join us on a climb of 164 steps and take in great views of Newcastle's city centre and beyond.

This tends to be used as a meeting point by locals as i's easy to get to. It's a great place to sit and watch the world go by. They also use the area for farmers markets and continental markets. There's also something always happening here either it be buskers or local performing groups or protesters.

If you have good mobility try this tower. It is an amazing view of this wonderful City,

The Guide at the top has a good local knowledge also.

At only £4 each well worth a look, My Husband & I got some lovely unusual pictures of Newcastle.

Tickets available in The Central Arcade, Newcastle Visitor Centre, Check out the other available attractions also whilst you are there. Susan

Before mobiles the young people of Newcastle would meet at the monument.

There is always something going on at monument and it's right in the centre if the toon.

Watch out for the charity people wanting you to donate £4 a month to help African wombats or whatever the charity of the week is.

Nice part of the city with some great shops and especially lovely at christmas with the christmas market. Quick cut through town to get to eldon square or grainger town and also there is all the travel routes to and from newcastle at the bus stops. On the alternative side from grey monument is the green surrounded by some really lovely cafes nice sit on a warm day in the city.
