Description: We’re big on warmth, low on fussiness: stripped wood floors, high bar stools, painted brickwork and comfy leather banquettes. Sup your pint beside our polished-oak bar or tuck yourself away in the Snug behind the frosted glass partition. You can hear yourself talk, concentrate on the crossword or nod off quietly in the corner. Upstairs in the Dining Room, it’s all reassuringly simple with solid wood tables, sturdy schoolroom chairs and shiny brass coat-hooks. Our menus offer honest, home-cooked food like pubs used to serve: tasty, satisfying, proudly British. You can enjoy a proper sit-down-at-the-table meal or, if you’re more in the mood for grazing while nursing your pint or you’re a bit pushed for time, try our Bar Snacks. These are Bar Snacks with attitude: generous, full of flavour, deliberately tempting – hand-raised pork pies, Scotch eggs, cauliflower fritters – they’re almost a meal in themselves. Why not order a selection and share with friends? Lunchtimes and evenings, tuck in your napkin for handsome starters such as potted shrimps or crab on toast, hearty main courses (perhaps fish pie or steak and chips) and old-fashioned puddings. Daily specials, such as Thursday’s steak and kidney pudding, plus a platter of British cheeses add more choice. Eat upstairs or down, on your own or with friends, one course or four. It’s your pub, you choose.

Saturday afternoon lunchtime visit resulted in a great meal. Shared a large chargrilled steak with trimmings, washed down with a really good beer from USA. Felt quite full afterward and did my best to try to resist having pud, but failed! Had a very good caramel & salt choc ice cream pudding. Service is good and easygoing, nice surroundings, good atmosphere. Will return shortly! If on Newcastle quayside it's well worth a visit. Far better than Pitcher & Piano and Waterline for food, some interesting and unusual dishes. A bit pricier, but worth it.

A week late with this review. Down on the Tyne and had promised to visit this place after having seen an advertisement in the Journal ages ago. I think we landed about 2.00pm as we had been delayed in our schedule. Only one other table occupied and the staff were closing the place down form the lunch time session. The young waiter with the haircut of the year and broadest Geordie accent asked in the galley if they could sneak us in. No problem and off we sat. Relaxed set up and I would just fancy an easy sesh there. Great service.Quick food.Excellent taste. Bang on.

My wife and I fed and watered at the Broad Char Newcastle, had a great afternoon great beers etc. on offer and superb food. We will most definately be back. (never been a fan of surcharges on the bill and I would have tipped handsomely if it had not been on, that said great bar and restaurant.

We came here to celebrate a daughter's birthday as she had requested it. I was a little wary before our arrival because I'd looked at the website and discovered a significant proportion of pork based dishes, which rather discouraged me. However, she wanted to go and so we did. And I'm very glad we did because the food is excellent. It is fresh, tasty and beautifully presented. There are enough extra dishes on the specials board to open up the choices more, which helped me a lot. We all said our chosen dishes were lovely and we would certainly go again. The only negative is that the seating area is quite tightly packed so if you already weigh around 20 stone, you will have difficulty in getting seating.Otherwise, do give it a try.

Great meal, we hadn't intended on eating here, but after finding our first choice was shut, we decided to give it a go. The service was friendly, and relaxed, both at the bar downstairs and the restaurant.
As a previous reviewer states the prices are a little bit closer to London prices, but the quality of the food and portion size make it worth a visit. We both had the pork shoulder which was delicious, and very filling, I actually had to wimp out of a pudding and that doesn't happen often.
The selection of beers is second to none, and probably worth a visit for if you're dining elsewhere.
