Concierge were welcoming, warm, knowledgeable and efficient. Hotel is modern and stylish - though mood lightling in lobby areas may be problematic for those with sight impairments.
We stayed on a Sunday night and they were not full so offered to upgrade our room. We were given one at the front which had fantastic view directly onto the 'blinking eye' bridge. Room was large and very stylish with lots of touches like a chaise long to make you feel comfortable.
Bathroom also very stylish and generous quantities of complimentary toiletries. My only grumble was the shower pressure could have been better, but it was alright.
Brasserie on 1st floor was very very good and far exeeded our expectation. It was also very stylish.
We loved the place and would recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Rooms with river facing views are great.

The Malmaison Newcastle is a good place for a couples weekend away, although it is expensive. It is a boutique hotel, and the prices reflect this. You can book special deals to get a good price though.

The hotel has the same dark trendy atmosphere that Malmaison hotels like. The room is amazingly clean, with an amazing big bed. The room is spacious and you get all the standard amenities. The shower is amazing in the morning.

We had no need to use the room service, but staying at the hotel they can organise a booking at their restaurant at the last minute. The restaurant has quite good food.

Would definitely recommend, but book in advance on a deal to get cheaper prices.

Room Tip: Best booking well in advance to get a good deal

We stayed at this hotel in June 2010 to celebrate our wedding anniversary & found the the entrance unwelcoming, staff at reception not over friendly & the whole hotel dark & depressing. We had the largest luxury suite overlooking the bridge but there were ripped voiles with cigarette burn holes, tie back hooks hanging off the wall cuplboards dusty & feel it certainly was not worth the room price, the only plus was the wet room & bose cd player but the evening meal was awful, salmon literally floating in pickled onions we would NOT stay here again .... an expensive mistake :o(

The front desk staff were friendly, helpful and offered excellent service and attention. And always ask about the possibility of paying for an upgrade - we were offered a wonderful corner room for a very reasonable additional charge per night, and it made our stay all the more comfortable and enjoyable.

The decor and style is very attractive, and the furnishings and facilities were all in good order and provided all we needed, including a comfortable bed and a good night's sleep.

We ate in the restaurant on one of the evenings and found the food and service to be good value and good quality. The bar, whilst nice, was always quite busy and it was difficult to get a good spot to enjoy the ambience - but that has to be our only criticism of the whole hotel during our stay, we'd gladly return!

Room Tip: Ask about upgrading to a larger corner room.

Great location right on the quayside, thoroughly professional, friendly and helpful staff at check in. Really enjoyed the room. Took advantage of the offer of upgrading to a suite for £40 and was not disappointed. Everything done to a very high specification and not as dark and moody as had been to led to believe. Good deal with parking at the rear of the hotel for only £4. All in all, would definitely return

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Fog on the Tyne? Let's hope not. Otherwise you'll miss the great view of the Tyne Bridge you get from our hotel in Newcastle city centre. But then, when you're staying at Malmaison Newcastle, it's the views on the inside that tell you your boat's come in. While you're right at the heart of Newcastle's great shops and exciting nightlife, the lure of MALBAR's legendary cocktails and the Mal Brasserie's classic dishes with a twist is pretty strong. And who wants to spend all night out on the town when one hotel in Newcastle has a whole floor with a shipbuilding theme and bathtubs you could sink a battleship in? It could only be the Newcastle Mal. ... more   less
