i stayed here with my fiancee for a couple of nighst, found the hotel clean and tidy with the staff helpful and pleasent. i would not hessitate staying here again yes there is some noise in the evening as some folk are enjoying the nights out but the hotel is right in the city centre. the breakfast was plenty with a varied choice. this is a budget hotel not a five star but overall very good.

Room Tip: if you dont want the noise of passers by ask for a room facing the back but be warned it faces a mul...

If you want a city center hotel near the nightlife this is for you. this is a clean hotel with comfortable beds dont stay here if you expect a quiet night as close to the nightlife but still an excellent city centre hotel.

am currently at this hotel as i tap away on my phone....no wifi..trying to sleep wishing soooo much i checked this site first. It is so noisy i might as well be trying to sleep in the street....when i booked here the receptionist was lovely but when i told her i was treating my 7yr old to a trip to theatre she might have mentioned hotel was above strip club and was noisy. Entrance up alley where we had to step over sick, bottles, fags and rat traps. Lift broken, got moved from third floor room as radiator stuck on full and was roasting and tv didnt work, moved to first floor which on reflection might have been better on third flr red hot n tvless, had to retune tv myself in new room as only bbc working, Rooms nice but stairwells n corridors really tatty. Both rooms have old single glazed windows and both rooms have cracks in more than one pane with most ov windows stuck shut. What with trains, strip club goers, music and bottle tipping from club evry 10 mins i Am seriously considering checking out and getting train home... Will complain and see how i get on. Such an inappropriate place for a single woman with a 7yr old to stay. Gutted as this was meant to be a real treat, and at 109 pound its not really cheap.

Great hotel - would definatly stay again. We found the hotel easy to find and there was a car park right outside for convience a little expensive but free after 5 till 8am. The hotel entrance could do with a sign as we werent sure how to get into the hotel. Reception staff all lovely and helpful. Our room was easy to find on the first floor. The room itself was lovely, no probelms with ;dirt, decor, mould as lots of people have mentioned on tihs site. The double bed was huge and comfortable. The only downside to the room is the shower as we couldnt get it to work, not a problem is was easy enough to have a bath. Hotel was in brillaint location close to the river and the centre of town. Dont be put off my the exterior of the hotel the rooms are great, and the hotel is going through a refurbishment. Great hotel!

This hotel has a lot going for it. The price is reasonable. My room ,( rather too small and stuffy) had been refurbished and was very clean. The breakfast was excellent. The staff were friendly and efficient. It is easy to get up to town or down to the Quayside by using the little yellow buses.

However this is not a hotel for anyone with the slightest mobility problem. Dean Street itself is rather steep. There are 23 steps up to the hotel entrance , unless you can find your way via the car park. My room number 341,was accessed via an unreliable lift , narrow twisting corridors and 17 more steps. This was exhausting.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms on higher floors.

I took my daughter and her possessions to Newcastle to start at University. We just needed a twin room for one night and thought £55 was reasonable. The room was clean, but the bed was lumpy and the shower didn't work. It was very noisy with people talking outside the hotel at all hours of the night. There were two (church?) clocks nearby that sounded the hour a little too loudly and I caught too many of the hours. The lift wasn't working when we left. We had to walk past piles of dirty sheets, which had been dumped outside the dining area. The advertised Continental breakfast was lacking half of the items listed, e.g. no croissants, no sliced fruit.
On the plus side we were in the centre of town, and right next to a car park, which was free from 17.00 to 8.00 and was locked from 22.00 to 8.00, so we were able to leave most of the possessions in the car overnight. The room was a good size. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful.
