Newcastle Marriott Hotel Gosforth Park
Reviewed July 18, 2014

I expected a high standard from a Marriott hotel and the cleanliness, comfort and all amenities did not disappoint. Where the hotel surpassed itself was the quality of service. The reception staff were beyond excellent -friendly, helpful, efficient and the complimentary glass of wine on arrival was delightful. We had just completed a 5 day walk where we covered the full Hadrian's Wall path and one of group had raised a substantial amount of money for charity - a lovely card and complimentary bottle of wine was an unforgettable surprise. We had a large and heavy cake to transport home and packaging it was taken care of readily, efficiently and with great humour. We ate in the bar and again found the staff to be equally friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: All good as far as I could see!

After our 84 mile walk, this was our luxury end to our adventure. Swimming pool and jacuzzi were great. Room was lovely, clean and fresh. Above all of this, however, is the staff who were the best I have ever come across. The front desk team, led by Catherine, set the bar when we 1st arrived and were truly amazing, warm, wonderful people. If more hotels had staff like them, the hotel world would be a happier place to be!

We set out via the wretched M25 on a Friday evening, and with normal delays and a slow M1 did not arrive until just before 2 am. This proved no trouble to staff, who welcomed us imperturbably, and when we arrived at our room we found that the bed was very comfortable, and everything in the room was very well thought out - would be happy to stay again.

Have just enjoyed a long weekend stay at this hotel and found that in all respects it surpassed expectation. The staff were particularly helpful and friendly, nothing too much trouble for the restaurant and bar staff and all requests met with courtesy. Everything in the bedroom was clean and serviced efficiently. A very comfortable bed. Quiet, efficient air conditioning (all three nights were very humid but the temperature was easy to control to a comfortable level). I shall seek out more Marriott hotels if this is an example of their quality.

We had been looking for somewhere to eat for our Ruby Wedding Anniversary and were struggling to find places that opened on a Sunday with a nice atmosphere and quality food ( we love all types but did not want on this special occasion to opt for Indian or Italian etc). The added problem was that it was world cup final night so we didn't want places that had the TV on with fans cheering along. Having never stayed in a Marriot before, I did not know what to expect and they don't usually open their dining room on a Sunday night so I rang ahead to check as the bar was the usual eating place on a dinner bed and breakfast deal for Sundays. I was glad to hear that the restaurant would be open and a TV free zone. We booked the DBB Sunday deal with access to the Executive lounge. Everything was amazing and even though we had not mentioned, other that enquiring on booking, that it was our anniversary, they had kept a record and the staff were great and we were treated to a complimentary glass of champagne with our meal. The food was lovely. I had expected the usual 3 course basic meal you get with these offers but we had the full menu and the same with breakfast, our choices were great and if we had paid for the food alone that would have cost pretty much what we paid for the room. The executive lounge had complimentary drinks and canapés and was a lovely place to sit and relax pre and post dinner. We used the leisure facilities in the afternoon and they were very clean and plenty of loungers to relax. The bed was comfortable and we could not have wished for better. All the staff were friendly and made us feel welcome.

Room Tip: I only know the executive room on 2nd floor and it was great

We can't fault this hotel. There was a wedding on when we stayed but that quietened down at 11pm and we had a wonderful night's sleep. With ample parking and a great breakfast, can't fault it. Have booked again for the start of our son's next year at university, as it is close to Jesmond without any if the partygoers.

I travelled overnight to Newcastle and was looking for somewhere quiet and handy to airport and city centre. The room was fine, if a little tired. There was a smell of damp in the bathroom and a couple of the pillows smelled as if they needed to be renewed (I don't make it a habit to smell pillows, I noticed when I was settling down for the night!) On the very positive side, the shower was one of the hottest and most powerful I have had in a hotel for a while, the staff were very pleasant and the breakfast was superb - best scrambled egg I have eaten in many a long time (the secret was a little double cream apparently.)
Though there was free wifi in the lobby I could not get connected in the room. The bar menu did not look very appealing so we went to the pub across the road for a wonderful dinner.
Location wise, it was a short bus ride into the city centre and it is in a nice setting if you had time for a walk.
