This is perfect for families and children looking for a free day out with a countryside feel. There are a few different routes to walk around the park each with a lovely scenic view. There is a kids park onsite with a indoor cafe, also outdoor seating available. Free parking facilities also a bonus! Great for a free family outing on a nice day.

Have been taking early morning walks for a good number of years now and have never been bored with this park. Most of the paths are kept in good condition, if there is a problem it's with those people who find it impossible to take there rubbish home and to some extent there could be more bins for same.

Thank you for your positive comments about the upkeep of the park. Our Land Officer does a lot of work regularly on footpaths and this year we have resurfaced the paths in Hadrian Wood. The park is loved by dog walkers and many are regulars in the park.

If anyone would like to find out more about the less well trodden areas of the park you can pick up a map at the Countryside Centre which shows the various trails and these are marked by corresponding coloured arrows around the park.

A favourite is the Rising Sun hill, which on a clear day gives a fantastic view over Wallsend and the tyne. Enjoy your walking!

I love it here because I was brought up in Wallsend and remember this area when it was a working coal mine. They have done a wonderful job transferring the landscape to include country walks and cycling paths, waterways, creative play areas and a fabulous cafe serving excellent food.

Its lovely to read your review as we know that many local people remember the Rising Sun from their childhood and are now reaping the fruits of the community's reclamation of the land.

Rising Sun Countryside Centre has an Exhibition Room which is open to the public (other then when the room is privately hired out) with a display that charts the heritage of the colliery, reclamation and the Rising Sun today.

At the moment we also have a lovely art Exhibtion 'The Birds' alongside which was created by local children from Ivy Road School and Longbenton Community College - come and have a look! The Exhibition will open for Heritage Weekend too, Friday Sept 12 to Sunday Sept 14. The 'Friends' of Rising Sun are also hosting a walk and talk. Come along to hear more about the rich history of Rising Sun, which was one of Europe's largest pits and an isolation hospital on Friday September 12 from 10.30am to 12 noon.

Such a lovely place to take walks. Love feeding the ducks and watching the world go by. Really nice cafe with reasonable priced food freshly cooked.
