Stayed for one night on Sat 31st following a gig in the city.Very pleasant and welcoming staff at reception.Room was adequate.Clean and everything you need, even an iron and ironing board! The room was in need of a refurb but it was comfortable and clean and served a purpose of only one nights kip! located in a very popular area of Jesmond,we found this out throughout the day as it got busier and busier.Very lively and bustling street at the weekends. They do accept stag and hen parties so if youre wanting a quiet time then maybe not for you.We didnt get disturbed in anyway but could hear people enjoying themselves but didnt keep us awake. Was a great location for the metro which was a 5 min walk away.£1.80 gets you into the city centre with only 3 stops away, perfect if you dont want to stay in the city.Ill certainly return in the future and would recommend to others

Room Tip: weekends are especially busy so if you want a quiet time ask for a room away from the street.Tends t...

Just returned from a five day holiday at the Caledonian. Staff were very friendly and helpfull. The rooms were clean but dated. The dining room was another matter. The whole thing was completely disorganised. It took one and three quarter hours to serve a three course meal and even then the food was cold. Despite several complaints they did notseem to be able to rectify this.

Stayed at this hotel in April for a weekend away just my husband and I. It is in a great location in the Jesmond area, we had a large room overlooking the front of the hotel which was ideal for people watching whilst having a quick cuppa. The bar attached was very lively as were the other bars in the near vicinity which suited us fine. there is a decent sized car park at the rear of the hotel. I would definitely stay here again

Thank you to all the staff for helping to make our stay so enjoyable. We had young children who were well catered for and who had a fantastic time. This was our second visit and will definitely be going back.
As for the comment from another reviewer about lack of water, this was due to a burst pipe in the neighbourhood, and was not the hotel's fault. The hotel offered us bottled water if we needed it, but the water wasn't off for long anyway.
Overall, great value, good food and friendly service.

I stayed two nights because my first hotel of choice was fully booked. The first thing I noticed was that the room was clean but very dated and that the hotel seemed to populated mainly by girls on a hen night. Slept well in the comfy bed on the first night but as you may have seen from previous reviews, someone set off a fire alarm by smoking in their room at 7am. When we left the building via the open fire exit we were left standing outside with no updates on the situation. I had to return to the reception to ask if it was safe to re-enter the building, incredibly unprofessional.
The breakfast was disappointing, fairly poor quality.
To add insult to injury there was no water on our departure day, something the otherwise polite staff did not seem at all interested in.
I would expect far better for £125 per night, when I could stay in a clean, modern premier inn for less than half that.

Stayed at the Caledonian Hotel as part of a group and all the party commented how good the hotel was. The rooms we booked were on the second floor and were very spacious. Breakfast can be booked for £7.50 when checking in and is worth the money. Overall an excellent hotel to stay in for an overnight stay.

I went to this hotel as part of a group for a hen night. The entrance is pleasant and staff were really friendly however as soon as you get the key to your room it all goes down hill. The rooms are completely dated and in desperate need of updating. Our bathroom toilet did not work, shelves were falling off the walls and there was no pressure in the shower. In the bedroom the bedding was clean and the rooms were of a reasonable size however the walls were covered in stains and scuff marks. With regards to breakfast the food was horrible and very little of it. My friend found hairs within the bacon and everything was dripping in fat. It appeared that the staff could not cope with a breakfast rush. As we were part of a group we had to pay a deposit on the room which we did not get back until staff had checked our room on departure, which just wasted time. The hotel was just not worth the money. I would not recommend it to anyone.
