“A bargain for a wee break after christmas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2014

Visited the caledonian in january with there gold voucher deal having visited this hotel a few times my son wasat uni in newcastle decide book in for a weekend to visit himself who now works there well what a bargain £119 two nights b an b an two nights 4 course meal (not a put on menu exact same as if you just booked into resturant) this was for two people in an excutive room which had it's own seperate living area the bathroom with it's shower the best ever experienced toiletries supplied bottled water in room biscuits an crisps. Robes an slippers supplied even a fridge to keep your drinks chilled as we not flying home to belfast late evening asked about a late check out which I was willing to pay for told not a prob had room till 4 pm at no extra charge so all at the peelhotel group an especially caledonian excellent value for money lovely staff especially rachel in the dining room breakfast also fab on a note to close I stayed in a five star hotel in dublin to celebrate my birthday in october an the price paid for it was 2 timesx more for only one nite b&b and it would not have came any where near the standard of the value and service of the caledonian so had I realised how good value this was would have booked a second break later on in the year but will be back

Room Tip: Think it was room 218 we stayed in

Visited this hotel on three separate occasions. Each time it was excellent. Room comfort is first class, food very good and staff very obliging and always pleasant and courteous. Loved the toiletries. This hotel is very handy for the town, Metro centre and local parks

Room Tip: Go for an executive suite. Ask about the gold card

A simply great hotel in Jesmond. Lovely room, fab bathroom, great service,.Made the initial error of leaving the Metro at Jesmond and consequently had a very long walk to the hotel - travel from city centre to New Jesmond and it is around a 10 minute level walk to the hotel. Buses to city are every 30 mins or more and are just outside the hotel..The restaurant provides very good food and bar snacks were available at lunch time. Reasonably priced wine although the piped music was not to our taste!!

Used the Metro to travel to the coast (Whitley Bay) not much good about it in winter.....
Went to Morpeth - very pleasant market town and also visited Hexham

Room Tip: We were at the back of the hotel - very quiet but the area itself although full of students is a fai...

Stayed here for a couple of nights last week. Location is very good being 15 minutes walk from the centre and only a £4 taxi ride if you don't feel like walking. Rooms are very clean and tidy. Stayed in the prince of Wales suite which was enormous and fantastic. Had a gold card package which included breakfast and dinner. Was very impressed with both, plenty of selection and good food. Hotel staff were very helpful and friendly, even letting us take our desert to our room to eat later! Would definitely stay here again. Very pleasant few days. Only small issue we had was there was very few plug sockets in room, not a problem though as there was still enough, but just a little bit inconvenient.

We stayed here 15th and 16th. Jan 2014. Not heard of this group of hotels before, but very impressed. The rooms were very clean and had everything you could want. Nice touch of water, crisps and biscuits in room. The food was excellent quality and presentation. Staff were very hepful. really enjoyed our stay here. Love the quirky lift!!!

Have only stayed here when our corporate bookers could not get a booking at our normal hotel.

Rooms are on the small side, and for some reason they think that an extra mountain of cushions on the bed is required. My boss had to complain about stains on those in his room, for which the fix was simply to remove them rather than replace.

Food in the restaurant is decidedly average, except for the burger from the bar which is very good. Breakfast is edible, but nothing special.

Being in an area frequented by students expect to be woken at closing time by the young revellers staggering home if you have a room facing the street.

A great stay at new year, excellent room with all the facilities you need, nice touches with crisps, biscuits and water left in room. Staff excellent and very helpful. Breakfast and evening meal in restaurant excellent value for money. A 20 minute walk from the city centre. Between christmas and new year we stayed in a 4 star hotel in Glasgow the Caledonian is every bit as good.e
