“Friendly staff - ideal location”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

Hotel is ideally situated for the Quayside or for shopping at either Eldon Squre or the Metro. Rooms big but in need of a make over. Clean but furniture decor dated. Breakfast excellent staff all very friendly.

Stayed here for four nights. I was so disappointed with my stay and wished I had stayed somewhere else. Good question is where to start to describe how pore was atmosphere around each corner in this hotel. All the time had impression that time stopped 20 years ago and staff is coming from some other space.
Hotel needs refurbishment in all aspects as you can feel "cold" from the reception up to you room in which one I couldn't find anything working or operational.
Rather choose other hotel.

Sorry to learn of your disappointment with regard to your recent stay, with particular regard to your perception of the physical standards within the property and the need for investment. The hotel is in the midst of an extensive refurbishment programme, eg. with the heating issue which you mention having been fully rectified through a major programme throughout the building.

We had the unfortunate "pleasure" to stay at this hotel on Tuesday evening (12.03.13)

Where do you start:
Car park which is part of the hotel but your charged £5 for the pleasure, I realise this is a "city centre" hotel but your paying to stay there already.
Reception - outdated, cold all wrong
Reception staff - very nice a young lady was beingtrained and both her and the trainer were realy good and help full
Room - old, tired and definately in need of an upgrade, bathroom lots of mould, bed saggy (but clean) tv should be in a museum I`m sure Beamish will use it ! channels advertised sky sports etc. but no reception ?
Restaurant - the first thing you spot when you walk in is a cabinet behind the reseption area with a door hanging off, I did joke about this only to be told yeah they repaired that this morning follwoed by a giggle
Waitress - BRILLIANT a youg lady Cara (appologies if I got that wrong) could not do enough really real;ly pleasant best part of the stay very attentive.
We had a table over looking the Tyne (good eh) but above you is a vent which runs the full length of the restaurant and blows cold air ? must be a mod con so you don`t burn your mouth on the soup
Food - Ok not what you`d expect from a "good hotel"
Back to the bedroom and a wonderful nights sleep - no chance !!! there is a vent in the room too which has a fan that sounds like an aeroplane taking off ! we contacted reception asking how to turn the air con off only to be tols you havent got air con ok what about the vent and fan oh turn ot to zero and temp to minus it`ll go off it twenty minutes sorry it does not !
Breakfast - at £11.50 each rip off sorry eggs lying in a pool of grease baco and sausages cold I could go on but don`t want to put anyone off staying here

Final comment overall cost £260 ouch ! not worth £60 next time I return to my native North East and the only hotel available is here I`ll sleep in the car

Really disappinted.... onbly good point your staff hold on to them as that`s all [people will remember you by

Room Tip: Book a different hotel

Sorry to learn of your disappointment with regard to your recent stay, with particular regard to your personal perception of the physical standards within the property and the need for investment. Our car parking charges are the cheapest of any city centre hotel. The hotel is in the midst of an extensive refurbishment programme, eg. with new beds arriving in all bedrooms w/c: 18 March 2013, and new flatscreen TV's and a number of other areas to follow. Breakfast normally a key strength of the hotel, comments noted. Your positive feedback with regard to the high standard of guest service is appreciated. It's a shame that you felt that such a low overall rating was applicable here, as this is not reflective of our normal standards here. Anyway, I do hope you may re-consider staying - I can be contacted via ken.ellington@millenniumhotels.co.uk and would be glad to discuss your review further.

Stayed here with my girlfriend for the weekend. The hotel staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful, great location, 5 minutes walk from the city and the quayside.

The rooms seem very outdated, everything could of done with a makeover, bathroom was not very good really. Think it may of been 4 star when it was last renovated but is pushing it now.

Overall though I would definitely stay again as it was really good value and couldn't fault the staff and service.

Thank you for your constructive review. We are in the midst of a refurbishment programme at the present time, which will impact very positively on the physical property once completed. The cornerstone of the hotel is providing great service to our valued guests, and your positive comments on this area are much appreciated. I hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back again soon.

Stayed here for one night this week as we were seeing a performance at The Sage. We were so disappointed with our stay and wished we had stayed somewhere.else for our treat. To begin with, the dank and dirty lift from the car park to reception was not a good start (first impressions count and all that)....upon arriving in reception, I can only explain the vast cold expanse of space as being similar to an empty airport lounge. The reception, seating area, bar etc seemed all open plan with furniture very sparsely spaced, not at all warm or welcoming. Seriously lacks atmosphere and you would not want to drink in there. Our room was basic, furnished with 80's furniture, and amazingly a massive 80's TV! The room was very tired, unwelcoming, mismatched/broken lampshades and the most uncomfortable bed (also probably from the 80's) which slanted in an odd fashion. On return from The Sage that evening, as the bars in town would be closing, we thought we would head straight back to the hotel for a drink - however when we got there at 10.50pm the bar was closed and deserted!! Back in the room and did not get a good nights sleep at all on the lumpy bed. The one consolation was the amazing view of the Tyne from the floor to ceiling windows. Breakfast was not pleasant, a buffet style full English which had been cooked for some considerable time (possibly in the 80's?!) and was therefore dry and pretty awful. It was not very busy, but service was slow and trying to obtain another coffee nigh on impossible. Following breakfast, we thought we might finish our stay in the spa.....down a very dingy set of stairs to the dungeon we found an uninviting pool, broken sauna and broken jacuzzi and generally little else in a very uninviting area - we didn't bother with the spa! My only other gripe is that the car park is part of the hotel, so why on earth do you have to pay to park in their car park when you are a guest for the night?? Money grabbing? This hotel needs a serious injection of warmth, character and thinking. Until that happens I would not stay there again and would not recommend it.

Room Tip: My tip to choose a good room for similar price would be to head to Mal Maison, Jury's or the Hil...

Sorry to learn of your disappointment with your recent stay. The hotel is in the midst of a programme of refurbishment, which includes new beds being installed throughout the hotel in all 156 bedrooms by the end of March 2013, as well as new flatscreen TV's and other areas. Whilst the sauna is currently out of action in the leisure club whilst awaiting a specialist part, there is no longer a jacuzzi facility (we do not advertise this facility). Breakfast is normally a key strength of the hotel, and your feedback will be looked into. Our car park charges are the best value of any city centre hotel (all Newcastle central hotels charge for this) at only £5.00 per night.

After entering the old & dirty lift from the car park things never really improved. We booked the 2nd top room, a club room, with the word " connoisseur " on a plaque outside the door. The room was tired, the bathroom was covered in mould, and the fixtures have all seen better days.

The spectacular views of the tyne are accompanied by regular loud rumbles of the metro train going over the nearby bridge from 5am to 11 pm. This and the worst mattress i have ever slept on meant we got about 3 hours sleep. Though we were promised we would awake refreshed.

Our room included conti breakfast and though the fruit was good the pastries were stale. This got us a free upgrade to full english, which had been cooked hours before and was being kept lukewarm by small candles under the serving dishes.

The staff agreed the place was in need of upgrading and am still waiting a promised call from the manager.
There must be better than this for the money
Your money may be but you definately are not the centre of their world

Room Tip: Go somewhere else
