Copthorne Hotel Newcastle

i visit my sister a few times a year aways staying at the copthorne, it has steadily grown tired in need of revamp but this, i have overlooked as the service and the food has always delivered.
my last stay was such a disaapointment the service still friendly with a new front of house manager, maybe not traditonally professional as you might expect but friendly none the less.
The food however oh dea,r once a destination place in its own right, it is now cooking by numbers badly delivered with very little passion or creativity. Truely bad on every level, i think my time has come to bid the copthorne newcastle goodbye

Having stayed at this hotel many times over the years was surprised at the signs of shabbiness and wear particularly in the leisure centre
But it has a great lOcation I knew about the bridge and the noise of the metro and it does jot bother me I like it but perhaps they need to make sure people are aware if they are new to the area (kielder is nice and quiet )
I agree room was too hot we were lucky because we could open balcony door. Save some money and turn the heating down.
Breakfast was ok bacon very good except that if you have someone pouring out teas and coffees they should circulate Eventually I stopped a waiter and asked him to get me a refill
Charges for car parking and Internet not expected at a 4 star hotel although both were inexpensive £5
I would go again and hope they will have fixed the malfunctioning things

Certainly not a four-star hotel ! Staff friendly, room OK with river view but noisy trains over the Metro Bridge, food terrible ! The whole experience was more like a Travelodge than a four star hotel and breakfast was awful - like something from a transport cafe, edible but average. I paid £89 for B&B and could have had the same at a Travelodge / Premier Inn etc. for half as much.

Room Tip: Away from the Metro bridge = noisy trains

We also stayed on 18th December but not for the Christmas party. It was a bit noisy but not too bad. Great location, parking etc. We were going to The Sage. The girls on reception were very friendly and helpful, What really let it down though was the breakfast. Is there actually a trained chef in this kitchen? Doesn't look like it. The fried eggs were leathery, the scambled ones rubbery. Had probably been made hours before and kept hot - and no we weren't late down to breakfast. The tomatoes tasted like yesterday's re-heated. The coffee wasn't great either. Disappointed. Had stayed here before years ago - when it was really good. What a shame.

Thanks for your constructive comments, in what has clearly been a mixed stay. Breakfast is in the process of being fully reviewed at present in all areas, and it's worth noting that the hotel has had a recent change in breakfast chef. Hope to welcome you back again soon.

We stayed at the Copthorne Newcastle for one night . Great parking multi story right under the hotel . rooms are all facing the Tyne so no passing traffic and nice river views. Our room was clean , standard size bed, comfortable , 4th Floor-quiet & not mote than 5 minutes to the quayside walking along the riverside.

We were at an Xmas Party night with work colleagues . The Disco was too LOUDand it was impossible to have a conversation. This is typical of these Idiot DJ`s who spoil everyones night every where you go . He was told to reduce the sound until we finished being served our meals. The food was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE , probably the worst Xmas meal ever and almost everyone on our table left most of it , stewed veg , greasy potatos and dry tasteless turkey . I would have rather eaten a "Tesco Ready meal microwaved". The table crackers had tiny plastic toys that must have been a cheap job lot and Im not sure if outside caterers produced the food . Well it was most disspointing Xmas party night ever NOTCHEAP just another Xmas money making ripp off. We didnt go to breakfast but i guess it would have been ok . This is not a good venue for such events but its a shame as this Hotel is well positioned and well established and the staff at reception were fine rooms were clean and comfortable and we would stay again but would NOT go to any xmas party here again

Room Tip: All rooms are river facing and the hotel has five floors

The hotel is in the process of an extensive re-positioning at present, with changes to product and service systems throughout the hotel, coupled with significant investment into the building. After staying in this hotel I don't think I will be returning in any sort of hurry. I spent two nights with my partner in the hotel over the weekend. Our room was lovely and had a great view of the river. House keeping were always clean and discreet, and room service was good too.
There was a Christmas party in the restaurant so dining had been moved to the bar on both nights to which we had not been informed. There was only one girl in the restaurant who had to run about after everyone who was dining. We could see other management walking about and not even bothering to ask her if she needed any help. She did her very best and did apologise about the noise from the function and the location of the restaurant. The next day we sat in the bar for a while before dining in the restaurant, I have never been spoken to so rudely in my life. The young boy on the bar who seemed to be "management" had very little manners and showed little respect to me and to other members of staff.

Our stay in the hotel was complete ruined by this.

Claudia from House keeping Rebecca from Room service and Clara from the Restaurant all made our stay a lot better so Thank-You.

Thanks for your constructive feedback, in what has clearly been a mixed stay. Sorry to learn of the issues experienced with service, which are traditionally very rare here. There has, however, been a lot of change since your stay, with a new Food and Beverage management team largely in place, and a real focus on driving service quality. Hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back again soon.

I don't understand how a hotel can go down hill so fast. Awful room and when complained about the cleanliness was informed I could not be moved and my room would be checked the next day, this did not happen. Breakfast was a shambles, queues and dirty plates. Believe it or not, the only decent thing over the weekend was the weather. Management are a waste of space as they did not have the time of day for my complaints. If you want an enjoyable weekend, stay away from this hotel.

Thank you for your comments. Your stay at the hotel has highlighted a personal opinion of a number of points which have contributed to a disappointing stay, which is regrettable. It is by no means reflective of the quality of the hotel or of the standards in place here.
