“friendly staff, good breakfast, shabby room decor”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2014

Convenient, near city centre and 6 minutes walk from central station.
Nice old building and pleasing views of Tyne bridge and high level bridge.
Rooms dated and shabby though functional
breakfast definitely above average, The hot food is made to order from an impressive selection on the menu
Staff very friendly
Stay again? probably yes.

Lovely hotel within easy reach of the shopping centre and with a lift that takes you down to quayside level so no climbing up steep hills late at night! Lovely room, good breakfast and a view of the Tyne bridge. Friendly staff and very smart public areas. Very impressed!

Room Tip: We enjoyed a room overlooking the river - not a pretty view but a really interesting one!

This a good looking hotel, especially viewed from the entrance on the ground floor at The Side. The recently refurbished public rooms on the 6th floor also look good. Two bar rooms with different atmospheres and a dark and broody restaurant. The bar has a pleasant atmosphere in the evenings with reasonable cocktails being served. The restaurant too is pleasant enough to eat in.
The rooms had not yet been refurbished when we visited so the DVD played mentioned when we booked was not available and the choice of TV channels was hit and miss, this also meant we couldn't buy and films to watch. The room was fairly average, even a little small with too much furniture crammed in. Also in the mornings there was a strange noise which sounded like central heating but wasn't down to anything in our room. I'm sure once the rooms are refurbished they will be more fitting for a hotel of this stature.

I have reviewed many hotels over the time but this is the very first time I've hit the 5* button. There were so many good things to comment on - the valet parking - the wonderful room with a view of the Tyne Bridge - the comfort of the bed - the location - the dinner and the breakfast - the service level from reception to bar to restaurant.
Last but by no means least the value for money. I'm hesitant to say just how good the deal was because they may stop it.
I'll be back..........

Room Tip: Go for the top floor with the bridge view.

We got a very good deal for this hotel as we booked in advance so can't really complain with what we got! The refurbished areas of the hotel are gorgeous and very nicely done. Staff are friendly and helpful too. Our room was in need of a refurb but that's what they're doing at the moment. We had a view of the Castle keep which was lovely but also of the train line. The view didn't bother me too much but the sound of trains were a bit annoying in the morning! But we didn't come to sleep in all day anyway! Would recommend to others!

Building- pleasantly imposing. Decor- stylish, modern very impressive. Service- outstanding. Wine & Dine- fantastic value on superb food and a decent bottle of wine.Breakfast-varied , bountiful and thoroughly enjoyed. So why the but? We had a suite ,916, 3 beautiful rooms with everything you need for a wonderful stay. What we didn't need was the head banging racket from a nearby disco that literally vibrated our bed with the heavy base music till 3am, which I'm told at 1-30 am by reception happens every weekend. We got apologies from the staff, a refund of our upgrade cost , both of which we appreciated, but we would have preferred a decent nights sleep . I'm told by other guests the noise wasn't so bad at the opposite side of the building or on upper floors. So if you fancy a visit to this wonderful hotel in the heart of Newcastle you won't be disappointed, just make sure you ask for a room away from the noise. It's perfectly placed for a stay that allowed us to see the Roman Museum/Vindolanda, Metro centre, and Beamish Museum then return to a luxurious bolt hole for the evening. I hope they can get the noise abatement society on their side very soon.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback; as a company we rely on people like yourself leaving feedback to let us know where we perform well and likewise where we do not.

As a City Centre Hotel, we do occasionally have some noise disruption from neighbouring businesses. I can only apologise that this did impact your visit. As your colleagues have found, we do have particularly quiet rooms in The Hotel which we would be happy to allocate should you wish to return to The Vermont Hotel.

I really do hope that you can accept my apologies for the issues you raised, and I will work with the team to ensure that this will not happen again.

Room was dated but very spacious, clean and had fantastic view over the quayside!! Our third stay here and staff, were as always friendly and extremely helpful. Nothing is too much bother! We didn't eat in the restaurant this visit but have done on prevoiys visits and were not disappointed.
