“Fabulous location and great staff”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

We stayed at the Vermont Hotel on a Wine and Dine offer. The hotel room was a little dated but was clean and had everything you need. The mini bar had a good selection of drinks. The shower was powerful. The receptionists were friendly at check in and check out and are very helpful. Car parking was included in the price. The hotel also offers a complimentary shoe shine service. The location of the hotel is fabulous with and we had views of the Tyne Bridge and Sage from our room. Everything in the city centre is within walking distance. The food on the wine and dine offer was of a high standard and the wine was good quality. All of the staff in the restaurant at dinner and breakfast were very polite and attentive.

My friend and I stayed on the 13th Oct after booking a deal through LivingSocial.
I rang to book a twin room and when we arrived the room was a small double bed that folded into the wall.
The fridge wasn't working so the drinks were at room temperature. There was a list of drinks and snacks yet there was an item missing from the list. Which we would have had to pay for if I hadn't pointed it out.
The room was mediocre and not tastefully decorated with ill fitting pelmets that did not match the curtains.
Small television quite dated just like the room with an uncomfortable bed.
Toilet did not flush very well and although all rooms should be checked before new guests arrive the lampshade was wonky.

Breakfast was quite appalling!!!
We eventually used the self serve and the hit good looked awful. Boiled or broiled bacon and over cooked fried eggs to natch the dismal display of dried up mushrooms, tomato and black pudding.
The sausage was acceptable.
Coffee and cold toast arrived after we had ate!!!!!

When we went to check out we handed the cards in and the member of staff barely looked up and simply said ' thanks'
Not even 'I hope you enjoyed your stay? Can I assist you with anything?

Such a shame really as I have ate meals there in the past and it was lovely. But if this is the standard of the rooms then I think they need to bring someone in to start revamping them.
Quite a poor show

They delivered what you expect. Nice location for both downtown and uptown Newcastle visits. The reception staff were very friendly and sorted out your requests with a smile. The breakfast waiter still have some training to do.

Room Tip: Great wiev on the front, noise from railroad on the back.

This hotel is certainly "Upon Tyne". Very impressive river views from my 11th floor room. Was a little worried thinking I would be in a poky attic room but it was lovely and spacious with a modern bathroom. I got a cracking late rooms deal and couldn't have been happier with my choice. This was not a typical big chain type hotel and had history and a nice feel to the building. The breakfast was very good cooked to order and served pipeing hot to the table.
Overall couldn't have been happier with my choice and price paid.

Lovely hotel in need of an update in bedrooms, however great location, free parking and very friendly staff.
The bar area is comfortable and we had excellent service throughout our stay.
We booked this via Living Social and only paid £49 for the night, great value, will definitely return.

Nickleback at The 02 Arena prompted the stay and we were more than happy with everything. We arrived around 6pm and booked into the restaurant for dinner. We had the set menu and the three course meal was great as were the staff. After the concert we returned and had a few drinks in the lounge bar and again staff were top drawer, Breakfast more than adequate and thanks for a great stay.

I spent just one night here but I would be more than happy to return. The staff were very friendly - I believed genuinely so. My room was litterally 10yds from the train line so was a litle noisy until the trains stopped running. If you are going to be there for a few nights, ensure your room is elsewhere in the hotel. The food is reasonably priced for such a hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure your room isn't near the train line - especially of you are there for more than one ni...
