“Terrible”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2013

I stayed at Whites Hotel as part of a Stag Do in May 2013.

We pulled into the car park at the rear of the building and first impressions were how bad it looked from the outside.
It didn't improve much on entering the building either; The floors were sticky, the stairs were creaky, the decor was outdated and the whole place smelt of damp.

After a bit of faffing we finally got our room keys.
There were 3 of us in our room and when we opened the door we were greeted by a really strong whiff of damp and foist!
We then saw a bucket in the middle of the floor catching water from a leak in the ceiling, and we noticed the smoke alarm had a plastic bag taped round it.

We went downstairs to request a room change but the lady on reception was very unhelpful and we were basically told to like it or lump it!
(There was no chance of a refund either as the Best Man had booked the hotel via an agency rather than direct)
So unfortunately we had to lump it!

(We later found out from other lads in the group that one of the other rooms had no electric whatsoever and another room also had strategically placed buckets catching water)

We dumped our bags and headed down to the hotel bar where there were more buckets catching water from holes in the ceiling.

Again, the staff in the bar were also rude - When I ordered my round the young lass took my order without even looking at me, she then just stuck her hand out for my money.....All this while still talking to her mate who was sat at the punters side of the bar!

However, one bonus about the bar is that it has some good deal and also has a 2 hour Happy Hour so I can see why it gets busy with students from the local area.

If I was staying in Jesmond again for a night out in Newcastle then I could possibly be dragged into the bar at Whites Hotel for a cheap drink before quickly moving on, but there is no chance I would ever stay the night in the hotel again, not even if someone else paid for me!

Overall its awful - Cheap, tacky and unsafe with rude staff!
In my opinion stay well clear.

A very nice tidy hotel ideally located on osborne road. Knowing newcastle quite well we've stopped in quite a few cheap hotels (£20-£50 a night) all around the city and as far as presentation and customer service goes this was by far the best. The only down side was the noise but this was probably to be expected on a bank holiday. The hotel is ideal really for people looking to have a night out in the city not really if your visiting for business or quiet city break. Bar blanc downstairs is just about the best bar on the street so your in an ideal place to start a night out.

Brilliant location with a massive beer garden.
We were 5 girls on a night away.
Very friendly staff and free unlimited fruit and bottled water was a really nice touch.
Breakfast was also good, lots of options :)

just a quick review - we booked 2 doubles by mistake the day before we were meant to travel instead of 2 twins, called and they amended with no problem.

Was just a one night stay on a Friday night, the rooms cost £40 per room per night (so £20 a head). Rooms were clean, towels were clean, tv worked, coffee & tea facilities etc

it's in the student area so expect it to be busy but couldn't believe how cheap the food/drink was! £2.95 for a burger, with a choice of 3 toppings and fries.. perfect after finishing work and the quick train journey from edinburgh..

the happy hour was on till 7pm, 40% off so we paid £7 for 4 pints and when that finished we went through the walkway into Bar Blanc where it was £8 for 4 pints..

we were down for one night for a gig but would have happily stayed the wknd, defo a hotel for friends due to the area but there was young families staying in the hotel.

For what you pay its a bargain and we will defo book there again

the staff were excellent, the room was twice the size we needed, the price was excellent. plus free parking. free bottled water and tea/coffee and biscuits.
the deals they do in happy hour is outstanding in the hotels first bar 50% of drink and in the other bar you play a game to see what you pay from 25% off, to free drinks or buy one get one free.
the food is also excellent and very cheaply priced.
the whites team did every possible to make our trip extremely enjoyable and we will be staying there again very soon.

Room Tip: our was on the ground floor and it good be a bit noisy but only when the students were enjoying the...
