“Great hotel great staff”
Reviewed October 14, 2011

Just back home from a 4 night stop at this hotel had a smoking room on 4th floor nice big room looked out over the river and rail line. Would recomed you ask for thos side of hotel as traffic can be busy at night. loved the way the toilet was separated from the shower. Breakfast is ok but not too keen on the sausage, but hey it was all good

Hotel was just ok, the location was just too far out of Newcastle. We usually stay at H.I.E in Newcastle Central. This hotel is 3-4 miles out on the motorway with lots of eating places beside it. Frankie and Bennys, TGIF and The skiff Inn ( pub next door). I would not like to be staying here if we didnt have the car with us, we couldnt get the HIE in town as it was the start of Newcastle Uni's "Freshers week" and everywhere we tried was booked up quite early on. Its a 10 to 15 min walk to the metro centre and not on the metro link. It's £10 -£12 taxi to town and back. Breakfast was fine, good selection and hot.
Definitely would not return to this hotel but the staff were friendly and the room was spotless, though no air con in our room !

Room Tip: ASk for a quiet room as there's a lot of hen and stag parties in the hotel

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Metro Centre for the GNR . The staff here are exceptional. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. No problem with parking at the hotel. TGI Fridays, KFC and Frankie and Bennie's on your doorstep. The Metro Centre
( Shopping Centre is 10 min walk ) Transport Links are good.

I went up for the GNR and stayed there only 1 night. There was a very easy and smooth check-in. Room was spacious and bed was all-right, There are enough number of car park available for guests, Breakfast was not the best part , but it could make every one happy, The rate is not high but a little pricey I would say.

this was our first time staying at this hotel and we certainly wasnt dissapointed. On arrival we asked if we could have a room high up and they changed us which i thought was nice. The reception girl was really friendly and made us feel very welcome. The room was very nice everything was clean and the tea and coffee facilitys was a much needed item for our room. The hotel is only a short walk away from the metro centre and the asda and i only wish we could have stayed there for more than one night. i would love to go back with my family to this hotel again.
If i was going to be really picky i would say the breakfast wasnt good for anyone who really likes a good old english big breakfast as they only provided sausage, scrambled egg and beans. My husband is a fan of fried breakfasts and this wasnt what he had in mind although there was other items on offer such as cereal, fruit, yogurts and toast etc

Room Tip: we stayed in room 433 and found it really nice

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review of your recent stay with us here at Holiday Inn Express Newcastle Metrocentre. Its great to hear your positive feedback, which will be shared with the team.

The breakfast choice with an Express brand is continental which includes croissants and pastries, choice of white or wholemeal toast, selection of cheeses, fruit, cereals, yoghurts, preserves, plus selected hot favourites sausage, scrambled eggs and baked beans. There is also a selection of teas, coffees and fruit juices available.

Thanks for taking time to highlight your experiences. We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the future.

Kind regards
Michelle Tindall

The staff were very friendly and rooms relatively clean except for a few tiny problems here and there. The location was also perfect for the impressive Metro Centre and less than a minute walk from a few restaurants. The huge letdown however, came with breakfast. With no restaurant present, there is a buffet available however the quality is pretty poor if you are wanting a hot breakfast. All that was to offer every day were bland scrambled eggs and a sausage. This would be the only thing that would put us off staying here again as it was poor value for money. The lack of air conditioning was also slightly off-putting, as even with the window wide open it was always very suffocating and warm. If both of these situations improved I would greatly recommend this hotel to others.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your constructive feedback regarding your recent stay at HIEX Newcastle Metrocentre.
The Breakfast experience in an Expess brand is self service and is taken in the Great Room area, adjacent to reception. The IHG standard is a continental breakfast with additional hot favourites Sausage, Scrambled Egg and Baked Beans. The quality of specific products is of great importance, and guest feedback is invaluable in ensuring that improvements are made in this area. Your comments are noted and will be escalated as appropriate.
Air conditioning is not a standard in our guest bedrooms, however the reception are happy to supply fans upon request.

Thank you for bringing these matters to our attention. We look forward to welcoming you back to Holiday Inn Express in the near future.

Kind regards
Michelle Tindall
