visiting family in Newcastle, we were recommended the Rani Indian restaurant and were not disappointed: the food is very good - ample portions, tasty, not as heavy as some Indian meals, and the prices are reasonable. Only complaint - voiced by some other reviewers - is that service is very leisurely: we had a table booked for 8.30, arrived on the dot, waited a good 20 minutes for our table (no order taken meanwhile, no drinks offered); we then waited another 10-15 minutes before the full order was taken; and the food took another 20-25 minutes (so, we started serious eating a good 45-50 minutes after arriving. True, it was a Saturday night, but the restaurant is not that large and did not seemed crammed to the gunnels). We were in no rush; and the service was, if leisurely, amiable; so this was no big deal. But if you are pressed for time, be warned.
