Description: Fujiyama Teppanyaki Restaurant is the first and original teppanyaki restaurant established in Newcastle Upon Tyne. It first opened it's doors to the public in 1997. It is the perfect venue for entertaining clients you need to impress or to celebrate special occasions such as a birthday or a hen/stag night. All customers have their own highly trained personal chef for the duration of the meal. Once you are taken to your table, the raw ingredients of your meal will shortly arrive and the chef will prepare and cook your meal on the hotplate surface, right in front of you. The food is delivered to you sizzling fresh. Our menu is extensive, accommodating both carnivores and herbivores. Many customers opt for one of our set banquets which are perfectly compiled to leave a pleasant feeling of satisfaction, not too much and not too little. Alternatively you may wish to customise and create you own meal by selecting starters from the appetisers menu and main courses from the ala carte menu, and some may even brave it to our sushi page.

“Sushi and Sashimi to die for”
Reviewed April 5, 2014

Many people go for the Teppanyaki (hot plate cooking in front of diners) which is great and quite dramatic (just make sure you don't get your eyebrows burnt off!) if a bit noisy. The Teppanyaki is great for parties and get togethers, but if you don't like noise avoid the busy times.

What I really love to go for is the sushi and sashimi though. I've been to many places but can honestly say Fujiyama serve the best sushi/sashimi I've ever tasted. I would eat there every day if I could afford to.

“Sushi and fun!”
Reviewed March 23, 2014 via mobile

The date is inaccurate but I've been here on 3 or 4 occasions including one birthday night. I would describe it as sushi for the beginner to intermediate level adventurer, combined with theatrical food preparation which provides the wow factor! Staff are very friendly, flavours are fantastic and probably my only criticism would be that once you've seen the catch the egg trick once or twice the routine can become a bit "samey"

“Love this place :)”

The food is amazing and cooked in front of you with such entertainment and friendliness. I really enjoy that you get to sit on a table with strangers as is nice to share this experience with others. It always makes it feel like a party atmosphere.

“Entertaining but stingy Lunch”
Reviewed March 10, 2014

There was one family in already and a couple of teenage girls came after us, so we got to watch 3 shows including ours. The guys were very sweet and did a smooth but restrained routine, with one bit of flambé at the very beginning. I thought the set menu sounds like good value for money, which it easily could be, but the corner cutting with the cheapest ingredients and tiniest portion sizes left us feeling hungry and a bit conned. The 'king prawn' main course is literally 2 prawns. The starter salad is a mini bowl of iceberg lettuce and a quarter of a tomato with cheap thousand island sauce, and the miso is the cheapest you can make with barely any tofu. The bulk of the meal is precooked rice with one egg mixed in. Finally the green tea was again terribly cheap and the icecream was surely the crappest you'd find in Iceland. I don't want to be overly negative because they were very friendly and the show was done with enthusiasm, but the standard and portion size is really pathetic even for a low price. I'd rather pay a couple of quid more than be annoyed by how they stretch the limits of no frills.
I am told the evening is the only time worth going.
