“Amazing!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012

I heard about this place through a friend and I'm so glad we tried it. Went to the restauarant upstairs with a relaxed feel and you can watch the chef's cook in dicipline and this shows in the food. Crisp, clean flavours and it looks amazing. The mallard duck was cooked to perfection and my friends open lasagne of wild mushrooms with truffle foam was a perfect balance of flavours, This is a gem in Newcastle. Well done. We will definately be returning.

“Don't go Monday morning”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2012

I have had usually good experience of this cafe. Generally a really good choice for somewhere to go for a coffee and cake a little bit special.
This time, everything seemed alright at first but the waitress, although quite pleasant, did not seem to be paying a great deal of attention.
My wife ordered, as a treat, a bacon and egg bun with crispy bacon.
The bacon was more 'hard' than 'crispy' and the bun was two bottom halves of a bun. (never had that before!)
Quite dissapointing but did not like to complain as it was a special treat bought for me.

“Cool, calm, relaxed and delicious. Make it your first eat when you arrive in Newcastle, only ten mins from the station.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2012

If you're arriving in Newcastle on the train don't stop until you get to Cafe Royal. You will be rewarded for your ten min walk with a relaxed, cool, calm restaurant. The food is delicious, especially the eggs benedict and the scrambled eggs. The array of baked goods is fabulous: the cinnamon roll are best in Britain. The only improvement for us could be an option of Yorkshire tea or a good British tea. The staff are friendly and attentive. Our order was prompt even though the restaurant was quite busy. This was our second visit and will be our go to place every time we visit the city.

“relaxing moments”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2012

Good central location, ideal for unwinding while the Mrs shops till she drops and assembles the heavy bags which I am to carry home. Bright and spotless premises with a very varied and attractive menu. Everyting I have tried has been very pleasing. Clean and fresh toilets. Staff are pleasant and helpful though when the place is busy getting a simple double expresso and bottled still water can take a remarkable length of time.

A refurbishment has improved the general atmosphere but it seems to me that the opportunity has been taken to slip in a few extra tables. Not good move in my opinion.
There is additional seating upstairs but I have never been up there.
Tables outside front are good for 'people watching' in the few days good weather we laughingly call summer. Newcastle being what it is you will certainly see some 'sights'
