Description: As if the Gateshead Millennium Bridge and the Baltic Art Gallery weren't enough reason to visit Newcastle's Quayside, there is also Gusto. Make the most of those sunshine days on the beautiful terrace, and when the evening (or the clouds) draw in, step inside the large, lively bar - with a superb choice of wines and cocktails. Add a 200-year-old olive tree, sprinkled in fairy lights, and Gusto Newcastle makes any day magical.

i say surprising becasue the restaurant is on the Quayside next to La Scala and I was expecting chain style food. However, the calamari was proper stuff - light crisp batter, it included tentacles and not just unfrozen rings of squid - better than some I've had in Spain. Steak was good, risotto a bit salty, gnochi good. Service was a bit slow to begin with then really speeded up (they were very busy) and we had a great waiter from Belfast.Good value.

We usually enjoy Gusto but found it very busy and noisy on a Saturday evening - which of course is understandable.
The food was possibly a little on the sparce side and my partner's pizza was lacking in topping? Still an enjoyable place to eat and our waitress was lovely!

We went on a busy Saturday night and despite this the service was still excellent, our food arrived quickly and was lovely, recommend the chicken breast with salsa verde...so tasty! The scenery is lovely with a nice view of the Quayside and the atmosphere inside was just as nice! A good place for a nice date or for a special occassion...also if your not to full the nutella calzone dessert is delish!

We ate here the night before the Great North Run so it was packed out with runners carb loading for the big race. Service was excellent and there were no delays despite how busy the restaurant was. Food was really good, we all really enjoyed the pasta we ordered.

Sitting in the upper floor of the restaurant you get a decent view over the river and quayside.

If you are looking for a quiet meal then this is not the place to go as it is fairly lively with reasonably loud music in the background.

Would definitely recommend this restaurant, one of the best Italian meals we've had for a while.
