Me and my husband stopped there for my birthday as a little treat, when we got there we couldn't believe how picturesque it was, I was like wow!! we were made very welcome our room was lovely, we had a view of the gardens which was great. It was good for transport too, there's a bus station pretty close , but we just got a taxi in to the city centre, The breakfast was nice too a nice change from a full english. I can honestly say I will definitely go back.

Lovely large house and beautiful gardens The service was very friendly and owners available if anything needed. Good standard of cleanliness and comfy beds.
The hotel is situated close to a main bus route into Newcastle and the Metro centre which was ideal with no car

We are very impressed with the house and particularly our bedroom which was comfortablely furnished. The breakfast was continental which was fine. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We will definetly stay again.

The welcome was reasonable, but as soon as I entered the room I thought, really, no curtains? Turns out there are some lovely shutters to use, but curtains would be nice.

Had to ask for the password for the Internet access - all other B&Bs provide this in the room pack, or offer it as soon as you walk in.

Poor electric shower which was hot, cold, hot, no water, cold, hot, with the shower curtain attacking me from all angles, which for someone who faced driving back to the south coast that day didn't bode well, neither did the lack of breakfast choice, or cooked breakfast.

Generally glad to get out, and glad for the early start I had.... Wouldn't have been happy paying the rate, if it was me that had to pay.

Nearly forgot to mention the noisy neighbours in the next room - walls are clearly 1cm thick, but that's not really the hotel's fault, but just added to my disgruntled-ness.

Myself and 3 girlfriends travelled up from nottingham for my friends 21st, we stayed here because we thought it was only 5 mins in a taxi to the city centre where we were going for the evening. It took 15 mins in a taxi costing £11 (£33 after our trips to and from through the day) The taxi drivers(all of whom very friendly) couldnt believe we had booked a room 'so out the way'. Upon arriving we introduced ourselves and instead of a warm greeting, he practically demanded £20 extra off each of us because we were 'here for a party'. I told him we were only wanting a shower and a bed but he wanted £80 and was very rude about it. We did get our money back on checking out but it was just unexpected. We had two shower rooms next door to each and from other reviews, i had expected them run hot and cold randomly but my shower was warm for all of 3 mins then it stayed freezing, i had to get out with shampoo in my hair and go next door, that was luke warm but better then freezing but then my friend went in after me and burnt her forehead in scalding water! The walls were paper thin, we could hear everything our neighbours were saying and the house and gardens looked nothing like there picture.
The ONLY good thing was the beds and rooms. Beds were extremely comfy and smelt fresh and rooms were clean, tidy and basic. Overall a bad place to stay.

We always pride ourselves on trying to give everyone a warm welcome. We did ask for a bond from the guests as they were here to party at the clubs in town. This is general policy at most hotels and usually we will not accept parties. I am sorry the girls chose to misrepresent the situation.

Had a night here as I had to work in Chester Le Street and my partner wanted to raid the Metro Shopping centre a few miles away.

We checked in late on but were immediately impressed with the style of this former manor house. Spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. Our room disappointingly had no en suite bathroom, meaning we had to share with others and trot down the corridor to use the facilities in the morning.

Sadly, the bed was far to firm for us and I can honestly say we both had a terrible nights sleep.

Breakfast is continental style, but hardly "Lavish", (as described on their web site). Cereal, coffee, toast OR croissant, jam, cheese, etc. Beautiful dining room though with a lovely view out over the rear walled garden.

Excellent value for money though. Be booked a friday night via laterooms and the cost was £49 for both of us

We had the twin room in the annexe and it was fine, very clean and bright with very comfy beds. Tea and coffee making facilites, tv etc. Although not en suite there are 2 very clean bathrooms across a small hall one with a bath and shower attachment and one with a large walk in shower, both had a loo. Big drawback if anyone else uses the other bathroom you freeze or boil even if they just flush the loo or do teeth, we were warned about this by the owner though. The gardens and wooded area are lovely. Breakfast was served in a very grand dining room with french doors overlooking the garden with a large fireplace and chandelier, only fault there was the coffee was very very weak, but more was bought straight away when I asked. We had cereals and yogurt and fruit and a hot croissant with all the jams and butter etc. There was also biscuits and cereal bars and cheese portions. If I went again I would go for an en suite but for £55 for both myself and my daughter and breakfast I thought it a bargain to be in a place with such character. The travel lodges and hotels in the city centre were all well over £90 without breakfast, some even £150.
