First impressions excellent ,walk into a lovely courtyard through to a small reception area with a well stocked bar + lounge nearby . Picked up the key for the room ,bit difficult to find , Opened the door huge room , big bed very comfortable , large telly , huge walk in shower ,boss music system couple of lounges . A spiral staircase to the next level , this brought me to 2 large cast iron baths , another telly 2 more lounge chairs , Great lighting system ,very romantic . Extremely impressed with the room . The Bistro was tasteful the food was ok , although my girlfriend asked for her steak well done + it had to be sent back . It was expensive , the advertised price was very confusing £150.00 for the room , providing you spent at least £ 75.00 in the bar + or bistro ( which wasnt difficult ) . The car park is an extra £ 10 which i thought extortionate considering the money spent in their hotel . It should have been free , the staff were very friendly . Plenty of towels in the room + dressing gowns . The room was very warm + the heating was not easy to alter . All in all the room was amazing + i would quite happily stay there again , the hotel is near to the Tyne bar which has live music on + i would recommend it .

Room Tip: ask for the romantic room , dont ask me to pronounce it though lol its all in French .

Just returned from one night stay here. Easy to find and a stones throw from the Tyne. Convenient parking. Great decor and easy check in.
Room was lovely , but a tiny bit cramped with the child's bed in. Monsoon shower was amazing.
Evening meal in the Bistro was good.... Be aware of supplements if on the bistro rate. The wine was overpriced in my humble opinion as were all the drinks!
All in all great stay and would return.

...because having heard good things about this chain, I was disappointed.

It is certainly stylish but I soon started to see past this. Having my credit card read on arrival, being pushed to book an evening table in the bistro, and in the room avoiding the potential crime scene that was the minibar and with a bottle of wine on the desk with a price tag - it felt more geared to extracting money from me than making me comfortable. For £115 before breakfast (which given the choice available was probably worth £15 for the cooked option), I would have liked an easy chair to sit and read in rather than the desk chair or the bed - but these take up expensive room. Instead I had a square sink and an illuminated wardrobe. And bedside lights that would not work.

I could have sat in the lounge with my book - the lounge is by the bar, not surprisingly. But not wearing my dressing gown.

I am sure a lot of people love the boutique effect, and the quirk of having rooms named rather than numbered. It just made it more difficult to find, with no explanation why it had that name. Perhaps, ironically, they name them after the cleaners.

Sorry chaps, but I have had better for less - and in cities, so don't try that one. Maybe boutique is French for poor value.

negatives
car park small & £10 per night
road noise can be heard in your room
no fresh air in room as windows can not be opened (only in 3 rooms)although aircon is in rooms
can't switch the underfloor heating off

These are all minor things and the hotel is outstanding and the finish on the hotel is outstanding , rooms are well spaced very clean and very comfortable

Bar staff are very helpful and know there jobs very well (although a little overpriced)

Food is oustanding

Room service is very good and helpful

Location 10 mins walk to the millenium bridge 20 mins to the town

I would highly reccomend this hotel

Room Tip: superior room is very nice and spacious and have decent views of the quayside

I have previously stayed at the Du Vin Edinburgh which was lovely and this hotel delivers exactly the same, I was in Newcastle for leisure purposes and after sampling some of the city insalubrious nightlife (I am told Princess Beatrice came here to University - I would have liked to go to her haunts) - all was restored when I returned to the hotel bar for a little luxury....my companion (a local chap) had taken a funny turn whilst out and upon our return was quite unwell....the cigar shack was perfect for him to sit out and get some fresh air before retiring to our room. This morning I woke to my newspaper a nice soft robe and an expresso - perfect start to the day. All in all an "interesting" night but a comfortable luxurious one! Should I happen to return to Newcastle I'd be sure to stay again.

Arrived at hotel around 2.30 and was checked in immediately, the hotel just being vacated by Manchester utd which i thought was a good sign.We booked with secret escapes on a b&b basis and got a good deal. After settling in we went for a walk in the area and found a couple of great pubs on the doorstep in particular the tyne bar.Back to the hotel and dinner in the bistro. The food was excellent and i have never seen a wine list as comprehensive or a whisky list for that matter. The price of dinner and wine was a little high but probably worth it.The walk into town is about 20 minutes along the quayside or you can get the Q2 bus if you dont fancy the walk. The breakfast was equally as good as the dinner with a good range of cooked or continental. We stayed for three nights and were very impressed by the room, the staff and the hotel in general.

Room Tip: We had a standard room which was good but the superior rooms looked even better. It just depends how...

We have just returned from a 3 day break in Newcastle Upon Time staying at the Hotel Du Vin. The hotel is within walking distance of some excellent restauraunts near the Quayside and only a 20 minute walk into the City Centre. If you don't want to walk there is an excellent bus service with bus stops near to the hotel. We had a superior room which was as described on the website. It was large, light and airy with a very comfortable double bed, a separate toilet and wash basin, a large walk in shower, fluffy towels and bath robes. For me the best facility was a roll top bath situated right in front of the window with a view of all the Bridges across the river. They go one step further with the extras which incuded a coffee machine, a good selection of teas, fresh milk and a pile of up to date magazines. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, particularly the receptionists and breakfast staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was excellent, with a good choice of hot food, well presented and of a high standard. When I asked where I could purchase the absolutely delicious meusli I was told that it was made in the hotel and the waitress actually wrote the recipe out for me. What service!! We shall certainly stay in the hotel next time we go to Newcastle, why would we want to stay anywhere else?
