“Not what I had expected...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2012

I have been looking forward to visiting this place since last summer so you can imagine my excitement at finally making it on a beautiful sunny day. As we had been walking we chose to go the servery rather than the restaurant.
We were informed that the food was cooked in the same kitchen. At £9.50 per dish of the main course - I have to say it was little refectory in choice and presentation...quality too.
Wine is served by the glass or bottle but there is no saving in buying a bottle, so, of you want to try a variety perhaps order different glasses of your choice.
The style of the servery is lacking character and warmth.
The food, everything has a sprinkiling of parsley, great if you like it. vegetables are plaine boiled to perfection I have to say. And boiled potatoes. Not a great choice.
A cream slice, not fresh no crispness to the pastry, mybe too much jam (for me).

The service was excellent.

Denbies has a real opportinuity to be classy even in the servery especially at the prices they charge.

Hmm perhaps my expectations were just a little too high ;-(

“PLEASANT...CLEAN...IN-DEPTH, WELL MAINTAINED VINEYARD”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2012

Staying in Dorking, we voted to see the winery, the largest privately held vineyard and winery in the UK!

The arrival is pleasant, leading to the main building. The Gallery restaurant above has a great view of the property. First we took the Facility tour, which starts with a 380 degree movie discussing the properties history, followed by the geology details...this land reflects the classic chalk geology of France's champagne region and the slopes facing the sun do likewise. As a result, this property is good for champagne-like sparkling wines. The automated people mover guides one through the processing plan,t then down to a lower tasting room, where you either have the classic or sparkling tour and tasting...I recommend the Classic...here, sparkling's need some more time to develop, as they are quite young in the effort!

We went up to the Gallery Restaurant for lunch, then too the land rover train tour of the property, way up to thee current owner's home. rain or shine, fun, relaxing, interesting nature adventure!

The property is also open to strollers, dog walkers, runners and off road bikers...see this, eat in the glass covered cafe, shop for goodies including jams, wine and bobbles.

A very enjoyable visit! Plan on spending 3-5 hours, depending on the tours you take, and lunch in the cafe (level one) vs Gallery Restaurant (level 3).

“OK . . .saved by the location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2012

Denbies is a great place to go for an interesting couple of hours. The wine is fantastic. We have eaten in the gallery restaurant a couple of times and it is ok but a bit bland and not nearly as exciting as it ought to be. In a winery, the food should add to the buzz of trying new wines and flavours. I felt that was missing. Good service, bit expensive for the quality.

“Not too complicated but good quality food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2012

Had a lovely meal in the 3rd floor restaurant for sunday lunch. Menu was good and varied and the meal was presented well and tasted lovely. It's not too fancy - but then neither are the prices. Take it at face value. Will visit again.

“"The views from the Gallery Restaurant make it!"”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2012

For one place to offer two eating experiences is tricky - especially when they both claim to be restaurants: The Gallery is a restaurant; the Conservatory Restaurant, in my view, is a cafe. I ate had lunch in The Gallery; the food was good and the service excellent. A pity that the wine isn't cheaper as it only comes from downstairs and you could have something that has travelled miles for a similar price. Whilst the refreshments were adequate in the cafe (cakes were good!) there is scope for improvement in customer service and the whole feel of the areas, which even for a cafe has no intimacy whatsoever.
