The staff here are excellent which is why I have given 4*. However the hotel is in need of major renovation.
Part of the Mercure charm is the old style cosy manor house/hotel but this place is being left to rot and the carpets are filthy everywhere as are the walls and ceilings.

The hotel is fine for a short visit but definatley not worth £124 a night for an extended period.

Booked here as our daughter who was visiting from Australia was having a birthday Vine & Dine Experience at Denbies on the Saturday. Our double room had been provided with only 1 hand towel and 1 bath towel in the bathroom and our daughter's room (209) had the constant sound of running water all the time and had a ripped duvet cover on the underside. On mentioning the towels and ripped duvet cover at reception I was told that extra towels would be in the wardrobe (this should surely be mentioned in the hotel leaflet) and that ripped sheets were not acceptable and would be replaced. On our arrival back at our room later this had not been done and I had to mention it again. I do not regard this hotel as a cheap budget option. Also with the cost of 2 pots of tea and a black coffee at £11.85, I feel the standard was below par.

Room Tip: Avoid Room 209 which is smaller than average and has the sound of constant running water.

Dear Guest
Thank you very much for your recent review. Please accept my sincere apologies that our house-keeping department fell short of providing an acceptable standard during your stay. Please be assured I have taken this up with my head house-keeper and I have also begun investigations with regards to the constant running water near room 209. We trust you enjoyed your wine and dine experience at Denbies and we look forward to inviting you back to the hotel should the occasion arise.

We attended a Wedding at the Burford Bridge Barn recently, and although we enjoyed the day overall, and the Wedding Breakfast food was very good. THE BAR PRICES are a complete rip-off !!!!!!!!!!!! To pay £ 39.00 for a 1st round of 9 drinks (nothing crazy...single shots of gin or vodka, a bottle of Peroni, 2 pints of lager) was OUTRAGEOUS ! A bottle of house red wine was £ 21.00....Anything like a half-decent Rioja was £25.00+, made for a very sober evening. It was such a shame....and to think that that bar area was their shop window for over 12 hours ! Crazy....very poor marketing ! (oh, and cash only over the bar, no cards.... at those prices ??)

Stopped in for a sandwich and a glass of wine on way out for evening. Dropped in about 730 and bar was empty of guests and staff. Staff soon appeared and we had great smoked salmon sandwich and nice glass of wine each. Crisps a bit stale but salad garnish good. £28 in total.

Sofa had hole in arm where fabric coming apart and ladies loo had loo roll holder falling off the wall.

Seems a shame this hotel is being underused and is getting a bit tired. Staff made up for fabric of building.

Att. the General Manager and the Wedding Team

We simply want to express our absolute delight with everything relating to our daughter’s wedding last Thursday. Beverley Luff and her team were exemplary in organising the perfect relaxed wedding with nothing left to chance. After the happy ceremony, the head waiter’s team were attentive and discreet – and transformed the garden room from the wedding ceremony layout to the evening venue seamlessly. The food was exceptional, and bountiful. Nothing was too much trouble.

This is our Ruby Wedding Anniversary year, and forty years ago we stood in the same place (on June 23rd 1973), cutting our own wedding cake...... it was therefore an extremely special occasion, and we cannot thank you and your staff enough for making it truly magical. All the guests were so impressed. Those who stayed the night were also delighted and could not fault the service, the venue and the rooms..........

With our thanks, David and Liz Cooper

I stayed here on a business trip for a week with a colleague, we both loved the hotel. My room was not big but the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was up to date and had no cracks or leaks.
We ate in the restaurant one night but subsequently ate in the bar. The desserts were delicious!
I also swam in the pool, it was clean and peaceful.
I would return here on business and for pleasure.
