Came here on a recommendation for lunch. It is a big pub, with on the face of it a really nice menu. The vegetarian pie was good, as was the suet pudding but the roast beef and potatoes were pretty dire. It was relatively late in the day for lunch, 3.15pm, and clearly they had been very busy but there's no excuse for this. Meat was bone dry and the potatoes were rock hard and utterly unpleasant to eat once you actually got into them.

The pub isn't cheap so there is an expectation of quality. We paid not far off £100 for three adults and a child, for mains, drinks and three desserts. If this was Wetherspoons it would be understandable to a point, but not at these prices.

When the plates were collected, the gent was told the roast wasn't good, to which he said "oh ok, sorry about that". No effort to understand more, make it right or feed back to the chef or manager. I guess we could have pushed it, but it's not the British way really. What they need is some Americans to eat here, who don't stand for shabby service the way we do, and that might wake them up to what counts as "acceptable".

These sort of places are incredibly important to the life of small communities and we would always rather go to a local pub thereby employing people and keeping money in the area. But in the case of the Parrot there's clearly some laurel-resting going on. Bit sad really.

Having not visited this place for some years we were interested to what was like under the new ownership. Overall we had a very pleasant lunch chosen from a reasonably priced and varied menu. The quality of the food was good and the service was good considering that it was only a few days before Christmas.

The restaurant is large but the refurbishment has retained the old cosy layout of the pub that I remember from some years ago.

Worth a visit for lunch.

Unfortunately not as good as previous visits, which was a disappointment.
Overcharged for order (reimbursed when I raised it), then over 40 minute wait for food despite being some of the first to order. Food arrived and was ok, lukewarm not hot. Such a shame as this was one of our favourite spots to visit. Hopefully just a Christmas blip!

Poor service and not brilliant food. I had to send ciabatta back or call an emergency dentist! Enough said. Probably understaffed or staff are not traine to a good enough standard. The food is very hit and miss. I have had good and bad meals there.
