I had a wonderful overnight stay with friends at Seckford Hall. The building is filled with Tudor character which has been tastefully mixed with an stylish refurbishment in most areas. I especially enjoyed the evening meal at the aptly named "1530" restaurant. The clever lighting and funky furniture create a lovely atmosphere. Furthermore, the food was fabulous and we were served by a very attentive waiter called Adrian. We continued to the the larger cocktail lounge to taste the range of amazing cocktails. Ben, Benjamin, James and head cocktail manager Lee were also very welcoming and attentive to our cocktail needs!! They made the experience fun and enjoyable. We enjoyed finding out about the background stories behind the names of some of the the cocktails. I highly recommend the "Snug"cocktail as a nightcap!
After, we moved onto the smaller bar for coffee. There we met the marvellous Sue who was warm, friendly and very attentive to our needs.
Next morning, we enjoyed a lovely swim in the pool and relaxed in the jacuzzi. This refreshed us for our wonderful breakfast that awaited us. Gluten free toast was provided on request and there was an abundant choice of hot and cold breakfast which was displayed in an effective way.
After this, we went for a walk around the stunning grounds with its magical lake.
I would definitely go back to Seckford with both friends and family trip . It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience with an extremely friendly staff . Most of all, I enjoyed staying in my newly refurbished bedroom which had a beautifully comfortable queen sized bed and a high tech shower. The view of the lake could be thoroughly enjoyed from my bedroom window. What a marvellous stay... can't wait to go back! I highly recommend this hotel!

My friends and I recently booked a meal at Seckford Hall, on arrival we enjoyed cocktails in the newly refurbished bar. The staff were very friendly and recommended some very nice cocktails which we enjoyed sitting by the very inviting Woodburner. Our meal in the 1530 restaurant was lovely and the young waiter was very attentive. The new look of Seckford certainly has the Wow factor. We had a wonderful evening and the staff were welcoming and attentive, we will certainly be back.

It is lovely to read your feedback on the new Champagne and Cocktail Bar and 1530 restaurant at Seckford Hall Hotel. The wood burning stove has proved a welcome addition to the Hall as prior to the refurbishment the Hotel did not have a working fire any where in the property.
Thank you for your kind comments

Had a lovely stay overnight, a little work still being done on the refurb to the offices near the entrance and a few spare scaffolding pieces round the side of the building but it was still great to see how tastefully things were being done. Many parts still had the feel of the history of the place despite the obvious modernisation that needs to be done. The evening meal was good, maybe not as good as it could have been but it was busy. I felt there was maybe one or two service staff short on the night. The pool / jacuzzi were a tad chilly but again, no real problems. All in all a very pleasant stay and our room overlooking the lawn was spot on!

Thank you for your review of your recent stay with us here at Seckford Hall - I am pleased that you like and reference aspects of the refurbishment which are to your liking. I am sorry that on the night in question when you dined that you felt that we were one or two members of staff short for dinner service - I will take your point up with the Restaurant Manager.
We hope to see you again soon here at Seckford Hall

Seckford Hall is truly delightful. Our room was extremely well appointed and comfortable, the staff were welcoming and friendly and the general ambience was glorious - like staying in a National Trust property I guess. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal in the 1530 restaurant. Its not every hotel that boasts a chair once used by a king - and if this were NT you wouldn't be able to sit in it!

Room Tip: I don't think you can go wrong

I discovered Seckford Hall in the 1970's. I loved it and we have visited quite a few times. Turning through the gates it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up it is so beautiful.
Hadn't been for quite a while and was a little apprehensive about the changes being made.
There are 2 ways of approaching a refurb like this. You either fake up the original so the rooms look like the way they might have looked in the past - albeit with a flat screen tv somewhere: or you strip every bit of character out of the building and go for what you perceive is "style" and which you hope will appeal to your clientele. In which case the exterior of the building becomes pretty irrelevant.
The choice is of course subjective. The owners have gone for option 2.
It's horrible.
Couldn't get a drink in the original bar as it reeked of fish as a couple were eating their fish and chips there. The dining room is badly lit and has a faux zebra wood tiled floor which looks truly awful. A very nasty mirror with 1530 written on it. The reception has been moved to one presumably designed by the same interior designer who did the cells at Dartmoor prison-the dark slate grey effect, all the rage this past month. The wonderful lounge where you could soak up the atmosphere and character of the hotel with your after dinner coffee has been destroyed and in it's place a zebra skin design carpet; an awful bar; and music chosen for the benefit of the younger staff. We walked through it and sat in a little room with wallpaper in the form of books. The abysmal music from the bar merged with the acceptable jazz which was in the dining room and continued into an adjacent very brightly light room. A set of library steps were in the corner presumably enabling you to step up and examine the joints in the wallpaper achieved by the decorator. A George III armchair stood alongside it's poor quality 1960's copy looking rather incongruous.
Food was good and the service friendly but add in the overtired bedroom furniture - why use mahogany chipboard when you can get reasonably priced oak repro furniture that would at least match the doors; the noise of the air conditioning plant; the fact that the previous occupants clothes were still in a drawer; and it added up to a pretty poor waste of £250.
I met a man in the car park. He described the changes as sacrilege. He had demanded a move as the music from the bar had kept him awake. He said he would never come back-neither will we.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us here at Seckford Hall - I am disappointed that the refurbishments aren't to your particular taste. The Hotel had lacked any serious investment into the ground floor space for a considerable time and when our planning application to renovate the previous owners living accommodation was approved, we decided to start our renovations on the rest of the property. As custodians of this grade 2 star listed hall, we wanted to ensure that future generations will enjoy and benefit from the charm of Seckford. We appointed a retired senior English Heritage officer to conduct a substantial historical register of the Hall as well as consulting with English Heritage about our plans for the interior of the Hall. Our plans were not to alienate long standing guests such as yourself but to open the Hall for all guests to be able to enjoy.
I am sorry that you mention that you will not be returning particularly as you have been coming here for many years - change does affect people in different ways.
With kind regards
Mark Suddes

I took my wife and friends for a meal and nights accommodation at Seckford Hall. Wow the hotel and restaurant have been totally refurbished, the food was first class and the overnight stay was fantastic. Well done to the hotel Director for his vision and attention to detail we will certainly be coming back. We hear that the Sunday lunch is good so we will try that out.
