“Disappointing”
Reviewed June 25, 2013 via mobile

I stayed at Seckford Hall for a couple of nights on business. The main house is breaktakingly beautiful and has to be seen to be believed.

However, with the exception of some of the staff, that's where the beauty ends. Check in was good but I was sent to the ugly 1980's new build 'stables' to find my room. It was dreadful! Battered furniture; a delapidated in-room kitchenette; shed loads of aweful features. To say that it was disappointing is an understatement. Dinner was terrible. The dining room is a shambles. Think 1970's Trusthouse Forte. Burgundy napkins - oh dear! The staff are out of their depths.

I cannot recommend this hotel. I hope it goes bust and becomes a lovely family house again.

Seckford Hall is in the process of a major refurbishment programme throughout the hotel; whilst the majority of our guests do like the individual charm of each of our bedrooms, others do not like aspects of our bedrooms. We have started a phased bedroom refurbishment programme to address this - I do hope that you will enjoy our new bedrooms should you wish to return to our hotel in the future
Kind regards

went for tea using a voucher sent on facebook. £ 14.95 is the full price and it offered 2 for 1 if what we were served was correct then at full of £14.95 it really is very poor. Half a smoked salmon sandwich and half a cheese and pickle sandwich. two very small fruit scones [passable] but whipped cream not clotted. cakes coffee and walnut and brownie both excellent but only one mouthful and a shot glass with trifle this was for one there were four of us and teapot for two ? if they have a worthy product then flaunt it. - this is a two restaurant if this is the standard I will not return.
please ask the pleasant young lady who served us NOT to relay a table handling every piece of cutlery by the eating end of the piece ie fork prongs knife blade etc

My friend and I booked in for a delightful afternoon tea. Lovely choice of teas, nice sandwiches (vegetarian ones were cucumber - delicious), wonderful cakes, scones with cream and jam and a truly scrumptious trifle to finish off. The restaurant was fairly busy, however, we were well attended by friendly staff. The building is beautiful and there is a nice bar and other areas to relax in. This place is a hidden gem and upon pulling into the entrance, it was like finding hidden a hidden palace. We had such a wonderful time, truly enjoyable and memorable day. So glad we found this place and looking forward to a return trip!

Myself and my partner had afternoon tea on Sunday 23rd June 2013 to celebrate our anniversary. It was "nice" but not as good as I was expecting. For a start, they used teabags and not loose tea. There were only 2 choices of sandwiches (smoked salmon and cheese and pickle). Several people asked for alternatives and sent them back and were then handed cucumer sandwiches. Nobody came to ask how things were for us so we had to keep getting their attention when asking for our teapot to be refilled. We went using 1 2 for 1 deal and I am glad we did as I would not have been happy to have paid at the full price for each of us. Our anniversary was not acknowledged at all. It was a lovely setting but it would have been nice to have been seated outside as there were others sitting outside enjoying their afternoon tea. The standard wasn't as high as I would have expected as recently attended a family wedding there and it was amazing service!!

Thank you for your comments in relation to afternoon tea at Seckford Hall. Invariably, we do offer the two types of sandwiches with our tea and replace as requested, we will look to take an order now in light of your feedback. We do have a range of silk purse teas available as well as a comprehensive tea selection whilst we source loose leaf tea - I am keen to ensure that we serve these teas correctly as well.
Afternoon tea has proved incredibly popular at Seckford Hall, we have had to implement a booking system due to the volume of bookings taken. Tea can be taken in the bar, lounges or garden however with the inclement weather we have had of late, we have noted that the majority of people do want to eat in the restaurant. However on lovely sunny days, the gardens do tend to be occupied on a first come first served basis.
Thank you so much for your comments
With kind regards
Mark

I recently visited Seckford Hall, treating my parents to afternoon tea. For £15.00 per person it's a complete bargain. We had lots to eat and the cakes were AMAZING! Had a very enjoyable time and can't wait to go back!

This beautiful period hotel is lovely. The staff are kindly, friendly and efficient. The decor and styling are perfectly matched. If you want a sample of England's heritage than you cannot go wrong with this hotel.

Easy to find and located near many fine restaurants. This hotel would make a fine base for a few days stay in the Suffolk area.

Stayed 1 night for work.

Managed to find my room and it was spacious with a comfortable bed. Well appointed bathroom.

The setting was quiet and the grounds attractive in the sunshine.

Friendly bar staff, prices ok for a hotel, nowhere to walk to by way of alternative really. Didn’t eat there
