The Crown is not really a hotel, but a lovely restaurant with some rooms. The rooms are grossly overpriced for what you get. The annexe rooms outside are just awful. So basic and bleak. My telephone didn't work, neither did the TV and i had no shower curtain. I told the housekeeping, but they did nothing. Something was only done until management were involved 2 days later.

The food is slightly overpriced, but the service was exceptional as was the food. I've heard the new management want to concentrate on making the restaurant the IT place to go in Woodbridge and i think they will suceed.

Personally, visit the Crown for the food and go somewhere else to stay the night.

I am delighted to say that the Crown closed for four months during Spring 2009 for a complete facelift when it was renovated and redesigned from top to bottom.
Modern comforts and luxurious touches have been installed throughout. The boutique townhouse inn it has become, that is a buzzy cosmopolitan bar-restaurant downstairs and ten indulgent bedrooms above, have been well received if guest comments and media attention are anything to go by.

We stayed here on a Saturday night and had the most expensive room (the only one left when we booked), large with a four poster bed. Split level floor is unusual but we liked the generally quirky and traditional nature of the building.

Staff were good, attentive and friendly without being starchy.

The room could do with a good clean, as could the breakfast area. It may be that the management is updating the decor gradually but we really thought our room very shabby for the price, cobwebs in corners, dusty in places, paint flaking off. You can't watch TV from the bed. Plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits though and a decent bed.

Breakfast was very good. They use quality ingredients, have proper marmalade (thank goodness!) and service was once again friendly and efficient.

We had dinner in the restaurant attached. The food was not as good as we'd anticipated, although not at all bad either. I had cod and crab risotto which was quite wet and had pieces of crab shell in it. Good scallop starter, quite imaginative in the combination of flavours and a short but good wine selection.

I believe the management has recently changed and the improvements are very apparent, the food was outstanding, and overall our stay was a delight.
I will be staying again shortly, and have spoken to many of my friends about how lovely our stay was.

This extremely relaxing and smoothly run hotel summons up memories of its celebrated past and its present function as the focus of the community. My room was large and comfortable;the staff are friendly;and manager Steve David's cooking delicious. A place to stay for civic and historical business and for easy access to the glorious surrounding countryside. I'm writing a book about my ancestor Francis Light ,who went to Grammar School in Woodbridge.I liked this inn so much I stayed 10 days, and would happily return.

This hotel has real character. It has come under new management very recently and if our stay was a taste of the future it should become a very pleasant place to stay as the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
We had a pleasant room on the first floor. The room was a little unusual being on two levels with two steps between the entrance area and the bed area. It was a pity that several light bulbs weren't working.
In the en-suite bathroom things were a little tired. The bath was mounted on a plinth, which made getting in and out a little precarious. The shower was over the bath and there wasn’t much water pressure.
Breakfast was excellent.

Stayed for four nights at a rate of £65 per night for two. Large room overlookiing The Thoroughfare was clean and generally ok except for very uncomfortable bed. Fried breakfast was filling and when we had our evening meal in the restaurant it was very nice if a little pricy. The hotel was being run with only a skeleton staff though as Greene King have sold it and new owners are taking over on 21st May 2008. Some staff were very friendly, others less so! General verdict; wait and see what new owners Thorpeness and Aldeburgh Hotels do with it.

My partner and myself stayed at the Crown for a Saturday night. As it was a last minute booking we had an exceptional deal of £17.50 per person.

In general the place could do with a facelift, but for what we paid it was adequate. The room overlooked the inner courtyard, so we did not have a view. The bedroom was OK and the bed was comfortable.

Bathroom could do with a refit and new grouting but was ok for on night.

The staff were friendly, but could be a bit more professional.

The hotel itself is in a good position in the centre of the town and Woodbridge is ideal for visiting the surrounding Suffolk countryside.
