Stayed for four nights at a rate of £65 per night for two. Large room overlookiing The Thoroughfare was clean and generally ok except for very uncomfortable bed. Fried breakfast was filling and when we had our evening meal in the restaurant it was very nice if a little pricy. The hotel was being run with only a skeleton staff though as Greene King have sold it and new owners are taking over on 21st May 2008. Some staff were very friendly, others less so! General verdict; wait and see what new owners Thorpeness and Aldeburgh Hotels do with it.

I am delighted to say that the Crown closed for four months during Spring 2009 for a complete facelift when it was renovated and redesigned from top to bottom.
Modern comforts and luxurious touches have been installed throughout. The boutique townhouse inn it has become, that is a buzzy cosmopolitan bar-restaurant downstairs and ten indulgent bedrooms above, have been well received if guest comments and media attention are anything to go by.

My partner and myself stayed at the Crown for a Saturday night. As it was a last minute booking we had an exceptional deal of £17.50 per person.

In general the place could do with a facelift, but for what we paid it was adequate. The room overlooked the inner courtyard, so we did not have a view. The bedroom was OK and the bed was comfortable.

Bathroom could do with a refit and new grouting but was ok for on night.

The staff were friendly, but could be a bit more professional.

The hotel itself is in a good position in the centre of the town and Woodbridge is ideal for visiting the surrounding Suffolk countryside.

The Crown is more of a pub with rooms than a hotel. Some of the rooms are inside, others are outside, in an annexe, the rooms opening onto the car park. I stayed in the annexe.

The room was quite large (with a sofa and table as well as a double bed), clean and reasonably comfortable, although it did smell a little damp when I first went inside. The ensuite had a shower over the bath, which worked well. Towels were large and fluffy.

TV channels were pretty basic ,although there was a mini music centre as well. Food wasn't great, but there are plenty of good places to eat in Woodbridge anyway. Lighting could have been better, especially for reading/working.

Overall, I thought the Crown was good value.
