I booked this hotel for Mother's Day weekend as it is close to where my mum lives. After checking reviews, I booked with confidence & was not disappointed. Receptionist very pleasant, restaurant staff rushed off their feet serving excellent breakfasts. Furnishings in room very traditional & plush - some reviews said a little worn but I would rather have character than bland & it was clean with a good bathroom

Room Tip: I asked for least noisy, as some reviews said it could be noisy at the road side, so I think we were...

We visited Carriages restaurant today (Mothering Sunday) on the off chance they had a table as the restaurant my husband originally booked was closed when we arrived!
The staff found us a table and could not have been more helpful and accommodating to us and our 3 year old and 1 year old boys.
The set menu choice was fine, and the food itself was excellent.
We were made to feel very welcome, especially by our waiter (didn't get his name unfortunately) who dealt with an unexpected conversation of a 3 year old brilliantly.
We will definitely return.

The Rutland Arms is a quirky, old coaching house with beamed rooms and long creaky corridors - a lovely place to stay; far removed from the plastic, chipboard boxes found in some modern chain hotels. It's on the High Street in a thriving market town with plenty of restaurants and pubs nearby. Rutland Arms offers great value for money (except on Newmarket Race Days or Tattersall Sale Days) with a good breakfst included in the price. We live 25 miles away but stay there several times a year. On a sunny morning, it's most enjoyable to get up early and go to see the horses on the gallops. Definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the couryard, these are quieter than those on the High Street.

It was lovely to read your review and see that you had a nice stay.

we were driving through newmarket and needed somewhere to stay on a saturday night - this place was perfect. Very good value for money and the included breakfast was great. the staff were lovely. the rooms are a little tired but clean (much better than I thoguht they would be for the price). good location on the high street but quite as we were right at the back of the hotel. would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: if you don't mind going uo and down stairs ask for the rooms at the vback (i think 331?) was nic...

We had occasion to visit friends in Newmarket and it was our first visit here. We found the hotel via trip advisor. First impressions were good. Helpful receptionist suggested sandwiches as we were leaving before breakfast was due to be served on ourfirst morning. Room was fine we had especially requested a quiet room and this was sorted. Nothing too much trouble all the staff we encountered were very helpful and very friendly and I often feel this emanates from good management. Thank you Rutland we will be back. If I did have a little grumble and it is only a little one the mattress was a little thin so would put me of staying too long and the towels are a little hard . I will still be back. On a plus side Wi Fi was free and that was nice I find it irritating when hotels charge for this.
