Description: Squires Restaurant at Bedford Lodge Hotel has undergone a stunning refurbishment and menu overhaul. The walls are adorned with carefully selected pieces of art mostly conducive of still life which bring the artistic decor into being. The vibrant colour scheme of rich raspberry and subtle lime combined with the amazing food, make for a charismatic ambience, especially during the evening when the lights are dimmed and the lanterns are glowing. This intimate restaurant is perfectly suited for long, leisurely chats over a bottle of choice Sauvignon or other pickings from the vineyards of France, Italy and the New World. The expertly selected wine list is enhanced by the eclectic menus and delectable selection of dishes. Whether it’s business or pleasure, a light lunch with friends or romantic dinner for two, Squires Restaurant is a recipe for success. Staff who aim to please, chefs who deliver and management who know how to manage... the ‘proof is in the pudding’, as they say.

very high standard of catering as one would expect from a 2 AA rosette recipient. Plenty of menu choices to suit all tastes both in mains and desserts. We did not have a starter but again the choices looked good.

“Enjoyable meal”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

Went to Bedford Lodge in the restaurant for sunday lunch, as in the past we have had some good and some not so good meals there, this was a Sunday lunch with the family, generally the food was good, although one of the party had a chicken dish with fondant potato, which was a hard potato, we told the waitress who apologised but nothing else was offered, when we ordered the sweets a different one turned up for one of our party and the same waitress was quick to point out "that was the one you ordered" again we took the sweet and it was lovely, but I feel the waitress we had needed a little more training, but the food was good and although not cheap we all had an enjoyable time.

“Dinner at Bedford Lodge”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

We were entertained to dinner recently on Sunday night, the staff were attentive and found the menu very interesting with a good choice of dishes which I believe would suit most palettes. I order from the fixed price menu which at £28.00 for three courses I felt offered excellent value for money. Our hosts and other guest made their choice from the A’la carte menu. I choose a ham hock terrine and the poached chicken dish, our hosts had the Veal Cutlet and my wife had a Lamb Shank of the fixed price menu. We choose some wine from the list which is adequate but not exactly extensive. We were served with an amuse bouche which was a tomato and pepper which was a good colour and an excellent flavour and enjoyed by all. My ham hock terrine came with the usual homemade piccalilli and the presentation was excellent. The terrine was moist and full of flavour and the piccalilli did not disappoint. I felt that all the starters looked very well presented and the cooking was without fault but the portions were not very big. All of the main courses were also very well presented and the taste and flavour was excellent. However the portion were very small my wife’s lamb shank had probably less than 90 g of cooked meat and was pitifully small. The staff were making a gallant effort in a very busy restaurant to maintain the standard of service but they were losing the battle. Our main course took 40 minutes to arrive and we had to pour our own wine from a bucket that was not near the table. It is such a shame that the management team don’t provide the support to their staff. Overall it is a restaurant which obviously has a talented Chef. Maybe it’s time the food and beverage management team went to go back to basics and support the team and the kitchen team reviewed the portion sizes. So when you visit the restaurant don’t arrive hungry!
I did email the hotel with these comment but they chose not to respond
