“Nice restaurant but let down by a few blips”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights recently and booked to eat in the restaurant on the Saturday night. The restaurant is lovely and there was a pianist playing various popular songs in the minstrels gallery which was nice. However unlike another reviewer we were sat quite near to another couple with just a thin beam between the tables.Starter of pig's cheek with risotto was delicious but we had to wait an inordinately long time for it to come. Being offered yet another roll to fill the time isn't really the answer! In the end we had to ask how much longer it would be. Would suggest that if one of the waiters or managers had just come over and pro-actively told us that there was a delay and apologised it would have been better. Main courses came comparatively quickly but having ordered the venison which I was told in the bar when ordering was 'served medium is that alright' and having said yes fine, it was disappointing that it was in fact served well done (albeit still tender). Puddings were ok but nothing to write home about. Shame really because the rest of our stay at the hotel was lovely with very friendly, helpful staff and lovely rooms and a nice breakfast. Would rate as Good rather than Average or Very Good but no rating for Good so have put Average..

“Affordable Luxury”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

The experience started in the Airmen's Bar where we had a pre-dinner drink and canapes,
whilst choosing from the extensive menu and wine list ( had a local wine - very nice)
We were escorted into the beautiful Gallery Restaurant and spoilt rotten by very attentive staff.
The service, surroundings and food were all first class. The seating in the restaurant is also worth a mention, as we were not crowded by other tables. We then retired to the lounge for coffee and petit fours (home made of course). Thank you Swan Lavenham.

“Gorgeous setting and delicious food”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

... not only that, but the service is discrete and the table are set a comfortable distance apart.
Before dinner, it is so civilised to gather in one of the numerous sitting rooms for pre-dinner nibbles and drinks while choosing from each course on the menu.
Even if you are staying on the half-board basis, it is well worth paying the relatively small supplement to have the larger menu. The venison was beautifully, lightly cooked.
Your table will be yours for the whole evening and the booking of tables at different times seems to be to enable the chefs time to work on your dishes. It also helps ensure that there is a gentle flow of people throughout the evening.

“Delicious Food”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

Interesting, healthy food, which is very good value, especially as part of a half-board deal. Delicious sea trout, sea bass and venison with tempting puddings. Beautiful venue with entertainment in the Minstrels' Gallery. Friendly, attentive service.
