We had *such* a very lovely, relaxing long weekend here at Cedar Lodge-and Ian and Debb started as they meant to go on by leaving us a lovely basket of Suffolk made food and juice (and even teabags) and milk in the fridge, so we could unpack and settle in over tea and cake/biscuits.
It really is a beautifully designed and decorated lodge, with little details such as books, local maps and a folder with information about the local shops, drs, takeaways, pubs taxis etc making it super easy to make feel at home right away. As well as a selection of books, we discovered dvds under the huge living room tv (in the tv unit) and a cd player/radio, so it was all too easy to spend the majority of our time at the lodge just relaxing, 'chilling out' and chatting in the hot tub.
The hot tub really comes into its own after dark, when you can switch on the gentle coloured outside lights and colour changing hot tub lights and just star watch. We were lucky enough to see shooting stars on not one but two nights, which was magical! We were provided with plenty of towels and a robe each and the bedroom doors open right out onto the tub/decking, so we could wander in and out as we pleased-and the under floor heating made it perfectly pleasant even after dark.
We took trips to Wyken Vineyards just down the road and explored the lovely gardens, gift and book shop and café-they also have a higher priced restaurant but you would need to book for that. We brought back some of their award winning wine and 'Good Dog' beer to try.
Bury St Edmunds is well worth a visit and the Abbey Gardens/ruins are lovely and worth a wander around on a sunny day. We had lunch and slowly, gently shopped and it was a very pleasurable day-sometimes just sitting with a coffee and cake in a 'new place' and watching the world go by is lovely and there are many very pretty coffee shops and restaurants to do so here.
I highly recommend a stay at Cedar Lodge, whether for a base to explore Suffolk or for a romantic weekend or an indulgent stay, it will have something for you. We hope to go back again and enjoy it soon. It's a home away from home, hidden away.
Nestled in the countryside about 20 mins from Bury St Edmunds, Cedar Lodge provides a relaxing and completely chilled-out getaway for two.
The kitchen is extremely well stocked with a dishwasher, microwave, 4 hobs, oven & grill, fridge freezer and a washing machine and there is loads of storage space for food & drink. The bathroom came with towels, a lovely big shower and a heated towel rail. The bedroom had loads of storage space for clothes and felt really cosy (the TV in the room was a great touch, especially for late-night World Cup matches!). The best part however was the hot tub...ohhh it was wonderful and the cherry on top of our stay! Being brand new, the lodge comes with serious eco credentials too and I didn't feel too guilty about lazing in the hot tub while the solar panels did their *thing* on a sunny day.
It's a great location if you like to be in the middle of the countryside, with the comfort of a big town nearby. To the west of the lodge is Bury St Edmunds and it has all the big supermarkets and shops and to the east you're only an hour from the coast so it's a great location for a variety of different days out.
We had a great stay and I can't wait to come back!
