“Good basic hotel”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

We found the hotel to be clean and comfortable and quite convenient for Bury St Edmunds. We did not eat dinner but enjoyed a drink in the bar. The service was good and the staff were very helpful. Breakfast was very good and we will stay again.

Room Tip: Garden rooms are nice

This lovely old house on the edge of town has become an attractive hotel with a good restaurant and pleasant grounds. There is good off road parking. The entrance hall is the bar area ( no hand pulled draft beer, only keg ) with large comfy chairs. The dining room lacks adequate sunlight, and is somewhat bleak. The seating is modern and not so comfortable. There is conservatory extension which bright, sunny and with a more traditional setting makes a much more pleasant place to eat though this tends to get booked.
The menu gives a better choice than many places, the prices are reasonable, the food is very good. The staff are well trained, friendly and helpful. For special occasions or needs they make every effort

Needing somewhere to stay after attending a family event near bury and not having much choice as everywhere was booked up we decided on this one. My experince with this chain has always been good and tjis hotel does not let them down.
Our room was number 18 which is in the annex in the garden which is sort of like holiday challets. It was very nice and had the biggest bed in it with what looked like a custom made metal bedsted. I slept very well!
My only complaint is regarding the breakfast price. As we had paid for room only so it was not included. On sunday morning a full english is required, but at £14.95 each thats expensive, considering the room was £63 a night. We didnt stay to eat.
Overall its a nice hotel in a nice part of the world. I dont think i would stay in this hotel again though.

Room Tip: Get breakfast inculded in your room price.

I'm a big fan of Best Western but this one wasn't up to the usual standard. I was put in a ground floor room in a block away from the main building and didn't feel particularly secure as a solo traveller. I did question this but was told there were no rooms available in the main hotel. The nature of the room wasn't explained on booking. Having said that, the room was large and comfortable and with an excellent hot, powerful shower. The staff were helpful although the gentleman who seemed to be covering the bar and the restaurant seemed a bit stressed and harrassed. The food was reasonable, nothing exciting. So all in all an average experience and only just value for money.

Room Tip: Be aware that you might be well away from the main building.

Just returned from my sons wedding reception which was held at the Priory Hotel. Stayed the night before the wedding and the night of the wedding. The staff were brilliant and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Even serving an afternoon tea type lunch for 14 just before we all departed for the church was done with a smile.
The various rooms I booked were outstanding. My shower certainly wasn't a trickle it was a full on delightful shower.
I can honestly say this was a hotel break to remember.

Room Tip: If you like a large bed then room 35 is worth asking for.

Just had a one night stay wit my two dogs and husband. The hotel was very welcoming even though we had dogs, some hotels are funny about pets but not here. Room was clean and comfortable, shower very powerful and room really big. The breakfast was excellent. All in all a very pleasant stay, our second in this same hotel and we will no doubt stay again.

You know what it's like when you are away in a hotel for work, the one thing you really need is a good, strong, hot shower in a morning. If that is really essential for you then, don't choose this hotel. As a few colleagues were also staying I know it wasn't just my room, but the trickle from the shower was unacceptable.
Other than that the rooms were OK, pillows not great, but I got a couple of good nights sleep. the rooms are arranged in courtyards which is quite nice, but in bad weather must be a bit grim. Breakfast was OK, service depended on who was working and ranged from the grumpy to efficient.
The hotel is a bit of a trek from the town centre
