“Interesting little museum”
Reviewed June 20, 2012

The turreted Victorian barracks building is the last remnant - along with the woods behind - of a large barracks and parade ground built for the Suffolk Regiment. That regiment has subsequently been combined with others to form the Anglian Regiment, who have offices on the top floor. The lower parts hold a wealth of mementos from the regiments' history; paintings, uniforms, flags, badges, guns, maps, photos, models, and much more. Even captured enemy items, as you see in one of my photos.

It is well presented in an old fashioned slightly amateurish way, generally well captioned, and the ex-soldier guides were enthusiastic and helpful.

If you have been to Ickworth House (see my review!) you may spot a few links.

To see most of the display you do need to be able to climb a twisting staircase, but disappointingly there is no high level view of Bury St. Edmunds. Opening times are limited.

I'm not really interested in the military but this collection held my attention - recommended.
