“Lovely and charming hotel and staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2012

We stayed for one night on a voucher deal. Again we were greeted on arrival and directed to our lovely Magna Carta room. A high bed but my wife managed to get herself on and off the high drop ( it added to the humour).
The afternoon cream tea and champagne started the afternoon wonderfully and this was later followed by the taster menu dinner which was superb. All the staff seem to want to ensure your stay is as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
The next morning we had a very enjoyable breakfast before setting off to explore Bury St Edmunds and the cathedral.
I would recommend this to friends and family and would visit again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Magna Carta room on 1st floor and it overlooked the kitchen and rear garden. Lovely...

Stayed here for one night as a wedding anniversary gift from our daughter. Firstly the hotel is very easy to find and only a minute from the A14. The welcome was warm and friendly. The cream tea was very good and accompanied by a glass of Champagne and the Fresh scones were first class. We had dinner at the Hotel as part of the package and this was a 6 course taster menu. The restaurant was tastefully decorated and an open fire very welcoming. The food was very tasty and by the end of the meal we had certainly had our fill. I am not a great fish eater and so three Seafood/Fish courses was a bit too much for me and even my wife who loves seafood and really enjoyed the Asian Spiced Seafood Bisque thought that 3 fish courses was probably one too many in a six course menu. That said it was a very enjoyable meal. Our room had been a bit on the cold side on arrival and so we had turned the heating up. On arriving back in our room we then had to turn it back down again. It certainly works. The hot tap in the bath only supplied a dribble and so we reverted to the shower but that was fine.

Before leaving we had a full English Breakfast and the breakfast menu is fabulous including Kippers/Smoked Haddock and even Kedgeree. The food was good but the highlight was Maive the waitress. They have got themselves a gem. I would describe as tghe mad professors wife. She was eccentric but wonderful. I can't remember the number of times that she asked if everything was ok. She really entertained all the guests.

Overall a highly recommended location and I would not hesitate to go back

Visited with my husband after buying a travelzoo voucher. A fantastic 1 night break with excellent food and wine. We stayed in Abbey room, full of old world charm. Very clean, lovely bathroom. Very large high bed for which a stool is provided if needed!
We arrived early and had an open sandwich and fries for lunch. Very tasty. Also a good choice of wines by the glass, surely due to the proprieter having worked in the wine trade. Our afternoon tea with a glass of champagne went down a treat. 6 course taster menu was full of flavours, small courses but after 6 quite enough. Again a good selection of wines available. Breakfast also nice with a lovely tasty black pudding! We ate both in the restaurant and the garden room, both with a kind of regal old world air. We enjoyed it so much we may just visit for lunch on a day trip out now and then. Coming from Norfolk, not far away. I would return with no hesitation.

My wife and I stayed for one night recently, using an internet voucher. As soon as we arrived, the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was lovely - clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. Part of the deal was a seven course taster menu - the food was all delicious, and very nicely presented. Again, the service during the meal was very good - friendly and helpful, but not cloying. We were also entitled to a cream tea the next afternoon, but sadly had to head back early to relieve our babysitter. However, the staff very kindly packaged us up a 'cream tea to go', so we didn't miss out.

All in all a lovely experience - we felt that the staff really bent over backwards to help, which on top of the lovely food and surroundings made it a pretty hard deal to top.

just returned from an overnight stay and we loved everything about this lovely place , wonderful decor, superb food and charming helpful staff , we felt that nothing was to much trouble and will make this a regular destination , Ravenwood hall sets the benchmark by which all british country hotels should aspire.

Room Tip: go for rooms in the main house

Plus points for me were the beautiful building approached by a grand drive with oil lamps lit to guide you in the dark. Christmas decorations were up and light sprinkling of snow gave the place a festive feel. The staff were very attentive, friendly and on the ball. We had the taster menu as part of a voucher package that we bought. This enabled us to try food that we would probaly never order in a restaurant and it was supurbly presented and cooked. Service was 1st class. The bar area was warm, welcoming and very traditional, liked it a lot.
We were in the Oak room which was very large with a good size bath and four poster bed. The decor and furniture were a little tired but seemed fine in such an historic setting. The room was warm and we had plenty of hot water. Great wifi signal. Noise from the reception area was very noticable.
Only a couple of negatives. The car park is gravel and with all the rain that we have had recently it was full of puddles and muddy sand which could not be avoided. A few lorry loads of fresh gravel is needed. Was really looking forward to breakfast after the great dinner that we had the night before but felt let down slightly as the full english was served luke warm. I don't think it was freshly cooked.
I can only give top marks for value for money as this was a voucher deal stay and we were put into one of the rooms in the main hotel rather than the mews. However at full price I would probably have been a lttle disappointed.
Would definately stay again if I could get a deal. It would be nice to see the grounds in the summer months.
During our stay I read a leaflet detailing the owners support and commitment to a number of childrens charities at home and abroad which I find highly commendable. Keep up the good work.
It does you, your family and supporters great credit.

We booked the hotel with a deal voucher and added an extra night. It is an excellent hotel with very friendly, obliging staff. We had the taster meal in the evening and it was a good mixture of interesting tastes. The open log fire in the main bar gives a warm cosy feel to the whole downstairs. The grounds are worth walking in especially with the carpet of leaves on the floor. We even had a spooky experience with the taps changing, the hot coming out of the cold and then a couple of hours later it was back to normal. How can that happen? Would recommend the Ravenwood Hall hotel to anyone and will certainly return.
