Called into the Nutshell on a day out with 4 other adult males. It is cosy to say the least, but that adds to the curiosity of the place. There were 6 others in there as well. All made for a interesting session. The bar is no more than 4 ft long with the beer pumps attached. There is a window seat but with 2 people on it was full. From the outside it must appear like a goldfish bowl with the people being observed. WARNING if you step outside with your drink in hand you could be told off if a policeman sees you as they haven’t got an outside drinking licence. There are money notes attached to the ceiling from all around the world. Look out for the dead rat hanging from the ceiling and the other oddities. A must do before I die place to visit. Truly fascinating but not too everybody’s taste. Just have a drink and go with the flow.

I have now been to the Nutshell twice, and still have not bought a beer! It looks amazing from the outside and the decor is brilliant but the atmosphere just isn't. I've worked in a couple of pubs and am all for a locals pub and regulars; but not when it makes the whole place seem unfriendly. And I don't understand what everyone's saying about the bar staff being super-friendly, the guy just looked foreboding to me! I've been in very local pubs before because they have great beers but the issue is that because of the size you can't help but feel a sense of not being very welcome. I've been with friends once and my girlfriend once and both times we've decided against it after entering.

But hey, I will try again because i'm determined to have a pint in the country's smallest pub!!

It might well be the smallest pub in Britain, but it is packed with charisma and character. I was surprised to find it was quite a regular's pub, however they were very friendly and full of interesting history about the pub. Sit down on the window seat and there is plenty to take in, including a petrified cat. The Nutshell is a must!

we were looking forward to going to the 'smallest pub' we found it more a place for locals than visitors. interesting decor!

I was taken here by a work friend who had heard about it; i am in in bury a lot with work and had no idea it was there!! But that is not suprising as it is not named teh worlds sallest pub for nothing!! it really will only take about 6 people standing. And what a varied bunch of people you will meet in there too! The bar staff were super friendly and even if you went in there on your own you would feel fine as everyone will say hello (it is all that closse in there they dont have much option - but in a nice way). There are different currency notes all over the wall which is really interesting - see if you can spot missing ones and if you want to add to it. There is also a dried out dead cat hanging up - very random - didnt hear what the story was behind that though. Well worth the visit - sells all teh local ales as well.
