“Well worth it”
Reviewed November 11, 2013 via mobile

What a wonderful little place. Came here on a recommendation and it was worth it. Only stayed for one night wish it been longer. The food was good and the beer their own was fantastic. The room wasn't the biggest but very comfortable though.

Will be back!

This place is the sort of "local" I would love to have in the area that I live.

Good atmosphere, excellent selection of beers that are brewed on the premises, and first class pub food ( well, probably better than most pub food)

The sort of place you could all in for a quick one, and spend the rest of the evening. Recommended !

Stayed here for our anniversary a couple of weekends ago. Bury St Edmunds is a lovely town and well worth a visit. We stumbled on the Old Cannon Brewery when we were ambling about on a previous visit, it's a little off the beaten track but probably better for it.
The rooms are clean and simple but comfortable and the water pressure in the shower will strip the skin from your bones. The staff were all extremely welcoming and found us an evening table for dinner when they were booked and busy with a couple of large parties.
The beer was great and the food good, although we had eaten lunch at the restaurant opposite, which is another fabulous find and definitely worth a visit, so our appetites were a bit jaded.
Spent a couple of hours on Sunday morning pouring over the papers, drinking coffee and enjoying breakfast, well my husband did anyway.. Full marks for the full English and nil points for the pancakes, greasy, rubbery and tasteless.
All in all a good visit but quite expensive at £120/night..

Room Tip: We chose a room but when we arrived they gave us another one, so if it matters to you do mention it...

I will probably sound partial and that nothing could go wrong but hey, it's my review and not some of the sour grapes that can be found on here. I have been going to the Cannon for many years and they have always been accommodating. Whether it was for a pint or two, a meal or helping me out in a pinch with a room when I was moving back to the states, they have always been there. There are always people around to chat with, a newspaper to read and a great garden if you are just looking to relax.

The rooms were always comfortable and the complaints of loud cellar chillers running through the night has never been the case as they shut off at 11pm. The rooms are small but what do you need, an activity area? The food changes seasonally but keeps to its roots of simple fare with a twist.

In the end, if you are looking for the Ritz Carlton of B&B's, then go to the Ritz Carlton. The Cannon offers their own thing which suits me and many other people just fine!

If I had one complaint it is that their fitness center and pool are rubbish! (just joking!)

It's difficult to go wrong at the Old Cannon Brewery when these three are your priorities. The beer is the star of the show in this bistro pub and real ale aficionados might never get to the food (an oversight) or the bedrooms (unless they've sampled all the pumps). With it's brewing paraphernalia on show and on sale, drinkers quickly realise that this place takes its beer seriously. Foodies shouldn't walk past either as the kitchen serves up solid fayre at a fair price. The bedroom was comfortable, if not a tad more expensive on this trip, but the full Suffolk breakfast still made the whole drinking and dining experience one to be savoured.

Stayed here a few times now on business trips and found it much better than the usual bland B&B. What could be better than staying in a brewery with a nice cosy room and good bar food.
The rooms are a littlle small but very clean and cosy. Food and choice of beer from the part time brewey are both superb. Parking available in the courtyard and a short walk to the lovely town of Burt St Edmonds. Forget the hotel chains, get booked in here the next time you are in the area. Talk to them nicely and they may knock a few pounds off the usual rate.

Room Tip: I think there are only 6 rooms with only room 6 being on the ground floor. This room is next to the...

Stayed here quite a few times as my husband used it for stops as a sales rep and found this little gem which we then stayed in , stopped In most of the different rooms which are clean an comfy , had food in the pub which is excellent , not many vegetarian options but they will do anything to accommodate what you would like . The breakfast is also good which is offered , a novelty that they have the beer on site and you can see the equipment in the pub they use to make it .
