“Gorgeous Winter retreat”

We had a wonderful stay in the white lion in November. It was a perfect base for a refreshing break on the coast and away from London. The beach is right outside the front door and the town immediately to your right, the white lion couldn't be better situated.

Treat yourself to fish and chips and walk along the shingle beach, if this doesn't get your 2014 feeling great, nothing will.

This is a very popular hotel with all my colleagues. This was my first stay and I will certainly be going back.

I had my evening meal in the restaurant and the food was excellent (if a little expensive). The service was very good and all the staff are friendly and helpful.

The room was really well decorated and furnished. The hotel is obviously a number of different buildings knocked together as there are a few different levels upstairs. There are a few steps between the levels but this just adds to the character.

The hotel is right on the sea front. There is plenty of parking on the road in front of the hotel.

Could not fault the service. Very extensive menu in the brasserie, my meal was delicious but my husband felt his main course was overcooked and he had the cheese and biscuits which was rather bland. We stayed in the superior sea view room which was fine but not outstanding, which it should have been for the price, the pillows were hard (a minor annoyance I know, but superior rooms should have soft fluffy pillows). Breakfast was plentiful & delicious. It is in a beautiful location and the view is what you pay extra for but do not expect luxury in the superior rooms.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Hotel is right on the front facing the sea. Food was fantastic. We had really fresh fish for every meal. Small car park behind the hotel and lots of parking in front of it.

Room Tip: Bath room in room 2 is a bit cramped

We took advantage of the White Lion January, February March offer. £149.00 per person for two nights, to include dinner, bed and breakfast, afternoon tea and a bottle of wine to go with a superb dinner ordered from the a la carte menu. A warm cosy bedroom, delightful friendly staff, and the hotel situated opposite the beach with plenty of free parking. We had a wonderful weekend, and are thinking of trying to go again before the offer closes. We've been to this hotel many times and it never disappoints.

Room Tip: The hotel is an old building with a few up and down stairs but there is a lift. We go out of season...

After a family Christmas we decided to spend New Year 2014 being looked after on a half board package 30/31st December at this hotel. We really enjoyed our stay and NY Eve was very well done, sitting in banqueting style with other guests to a well planned and served eight course meal.
We had a great night meeting new people and the disco that followed was really well managed and suited the party very well. The whole party was really well done and the food excellent, plus the chef came from the kitchen and spent time with the guests.
Well Done to Peter Osbourne, GM and his team.

Room Tip: All rooms are adequate but you pay more for the sea views. If only there for a short stay and you ar...

The last time we stayed at the White Lion it had not undergone all its refurbishment and was a quaint seaside hotel which we loved. We had noted the various changes to the hotel on trips to Aldeburgh, particularly the change from the old dining room to the new Bistro which used to be the bar. So somewhat nervously we booked on their Come White Back deal, which included Dinner Bed and Breakfast (wine included) and afternoon tea. This turned out to be a great choice.
Our room was on the first floor. It was a good size with a large comfy bed, excellent views to the beach and the sea, and all worries about noise transference between the restaurant to our room were proved wrong. It was serviced every day whilst we were having breakfast - great! The staff were attentive polite and knowledgable, particularly the barmen who knew their wines. On one morning it seemed the entire hotel arrived for breakfast at the same time and the staff did an amazing tour de force to cope with all the simultaneous orders and keep everyone happy whilst they were waiting. The dinner menus are wide ranging and all the food we ordered was delicious.
Due to the extreme weather we had a temporary power cut one evening, and the staff dealt well and quickly with the situation, and all the following ramifications in the restaurant etc.
My only nostalgia for the past is that I would have preferred the lounge not to have become open plan. Although it was small in its previous incarnation the lounge was cosy and quiet - something it is not now it opens on to reception, the hallway and front door!
A great break at a great price in a great little hotel.
