Myself and 5 other adults ranging from 50 - 82 yrs have recently returned from the Lookout after spending 7 wonderful days.
We were met on arrival and quickly shown around the accommodation after which we were left to our own devices.
The accommodation certainly has the wow factor. The views overlooking the sea are simply breathtaking. Having coffee in the morning with the French doors wide open and the sun washing all over you as you gaze over the sea will stay with me for a very long time.
Its all the little touches that make the Lookout stand out from the crowd. The excellent welcome pack was a lovely touch - this included fresh milk, 2 bottles of wine (one white (chilled) and one red), some nibbles and a box of chocolates. The decor is tastefully done with lovely pictures and ornaments throughout. Its location is a stones throw away from the moot hall and is in easy walking distance of the main high street. The free WIFI was another welcome inclusion.
Aldeburgh itself was absolutely beautiful; it had a distinct lack of tackiness.
We cooked fish freshly caught on that day and also had kippers which had been smoked in the shack on the beach. We loved the fish and chips from the high street, however, be warned, you may have to queue for a while. We dined at the Regatta which served lovely food in nice surroundings (Couldn’t get in at the Light House).
We visited the White Lion (Bar & Brassiere), The Brudenell, The Wentworth (Terrace Bar), Old Cross Keys, Pelican Bar, The White Hart and the Mill Inn.
The Brudenell served excellent South African Sauvignon Blanc and had a lovely area overlooking the sea. The White Hart is more of a locals pub however the Adnams beer served here was the best in Aldeburgh; they also allow you to eat your fish and chips from the chip shop next door. The Old Cross Keys seemed a bit past its best and the Pelican Bar and Grill lacked character. The White Lion was lovely but our favourite was the Terrace Bar in the Wentworth.
We also visited the Oysterage and Quay in Orford which is well worth a visit.
The Lookout proved to be the perfect accommodation in a wonderful setting.
