Having had to cancel a trip to Bruges and Brussels at short notice we had to find somewhere else for a half-term break in a hurry. Having decided on Aldeburgh and read the hotel reviews we came to the Wentworth and had a very nice time. The room was good, though a seaview would always have improved things but you can't have everything. The toilet broke on the second day but we decided to stay in the room as this happened on the last evening. A generous adjustment was made (unrequested) to the bill which basically paid for our bar drinks. The only quibble I have is (as always) with the quality of bedding. Hard pillows and hard mattress but then I think I've only had one comfortable bed in about the last ten holidays, regardless of hotel rating, so this seems pretty standard to me now.

Overall a very good stay and I heartily recommend.

My wife and I decided on a Friday evening that we felt like going away for the weekend, somewhere by the sea. We decided on Suffolk and looked at a map, before deciding on Aldeburgh. We checked out Trip Advisor and saw that The Wentworth was rated number one in Aldeburgh. We phoned and made a reservation for Saturday evening. When the charming lady told me the rate, I wondered whether the rate was per person, since it is a long time since I have been quoted less than £100 for bed and breakfast. I was nervously trying to manage my wife's expectations as we drove towards Aldeburgh. On a cold day in January, Aldeburgh was not at its most inviting, but we were warmed by a charming welcome at reception. Our standard double room overlooked the road, but was perfectly comfortable and newly refurbished. Public rooms were warm, welcoming, comfortable and very nicely decorated, with some very good paintings. We asked for afternoon tea and were served with lovely homemade biscuits. Dinner was excellent, and very good value. We chose from the seafood menu, which has very fair supplements, and were served very fresh seafood with excellent vegetables and well-prepared sauces. Breakfast, the following morning, was amongst the best we have been served anywhere.
Charming and comfortable room, excellent service, first class dinner (with two bottles of wine) and an outstanding breakfast - all for under £200. Astonishing value.

We had stayed at the Wentworth four years ago and decided to see how things are now.
We were not disappointed.
The room was clean, bright and light. Bedding was crisp and clean and everything in there worked. However we did opt for a sea view.
The restaurant was well run the staff were attentive but not overbearing.
The food was excellent and appeared to have a lot of local produce, the fish dishes were particularly good, there was a good wine list and well kept Adnams bitter.
However, I would not recommend this hotel for families with young children.
We had a great break and will not be leaving it another four years.

We spent 3 nights at the Wentworth last week and were very disappointed. We had booked a sea-view room with its own small lounge area. The sea views were spectacular but attention to detail in the room was poor. The wall mounted heaters didn't work, the bathroom was a disaster of bad planning, the bedding was awful and my husband had to scramble onto his bed as there wasn't space to get round the side of it.
The restaurant was chaotic - we had constant trouble getting a reasonable table even though we had booked dinner/bed and breakfast. The food was variable - sometimes very good and sometimes awful.

It doesn't get much better than this! Friendly, attentive staff, clean, comfortable rooms and public areas and the best, most consistent cooking we've found anywhere in the UK. A week at The Wentworth was totally relaxing, and the hotel consistently surprises you with its family-run ethos and old-fashioned service and charm. It was such a refreshing change from the bland, corporate chain hotels.

A great location right on the beach means you can take a gentle stroll to the sea, or sit and enjoy a drink or afternoon cream tea in the immaculately maintained gardens or on the terrace. If the weather is less than clement there is plenty of space to sprawl out with a good book on one of the many comfortable sofas in the lounges.

We spoke to many guests who return again and again, and now we know why. We shall return, too! The Wentworth is not cheap, but what you get is true value for money. The key is attention to detail, which is excellent, almost certainly as a result of the hands-on management of its owner.

If you want the 'Have a Nice Day' corporate international hotel style, then The Wentworth may not be for you. If you want the best of British traditional hospitality and service, then book now, but bear in mind you may have to join a considerable queue! Oh, and by the way, the restaurant has a very good wine list and the bar serves the local, hand-pulled, Adnams beer! Parking, too, was very good, even though the hotel was full.
