“weekend break in febuary”
Reviewed February 28, 2014

to start the parking is pay and display, £7 for 24 hours.
check in was efficient, wont say anything else
room excellent, really spacious although the bed cover was just a white duvet, bathroom spacious and clean.
buffet breakfast in the restaurant was acceptable
however as the restaurant was closed on the saturday night for wedding hotel diners had to go to a back room to choose from a poor selection of pub food in heated tureen, no service, no table laid, help yourself to cutlery and search for the condiments
Service, there was non. how they could call this dinner is beyond me.
would have had fresher food at the pub

visited the north stafford hotel for the £5 lunch time buffet. Wasnt expecting too much for the money but was pleasantly surprised by the food on offer. soup to start with fresh bread rolls, a choice of 4 main meals with lovely fresh veg, potatoes and great chips. top it all off with 3 choices of lovely desserts and melon followed by tea or coffee and you have a great lunch at a great price. would recommend to anyone looking for good price but quality food you do have to book first but well worth a visit. offer runs mon - fri

Basically the staff were rude apart from management. The food that could have been taken from a retirement home would have more chance than this place. The room was clean but very dated, as was the whole hotel.

Just staying for the one night, thankfully, had a double room with ensuite. Room decor extremely poor, mdf wardrobe doors, unpainted! Very dated in the public areas, with a mish mash of different swirly carpets, fraying at the edges. Vending machine in foyer didn't work, and staff unable to do anything about it as it belongs to an outside company, not very helpful. Had a few drinks in the bar, pleasant as found the barman's complete lack of knowledge amusing. He thought that Peroni beer was local, and hadn't got a clue where or what the peak district is!! Not bad, considering it's on the doorstep. If I'd been a tourist, I would have come away as blissfully unaware as he was.
This place was easy to find as right next to the train station, even though I was driving, just follow the signs for the station. Didn't chance breakfast, as thought at £9.95 per person a bit steep. Overall although a cheap nights stay, you certainly get what you pay for!
On the plus side, bed very comfortable, and clean linen.

Room Tip: Don't bother, unless on a tight budget.

I visted in January 2014. It was the worst eating experiance after we got a free meal there. It was terrible! The was no choice on the menu just 2 choices (Not exact). Then the fire alarm went off when we were eating. I would not recomend this to anyone. I am not sure what the rooms are like because we only eat there but the food should not be offerd to anyone who is not staying at the hotel.

We stayed for one night at this hotel. Only paid £38 which included £3 car parking charges. First impression - if you like to get "High" on bleach this is the place to go. This is a very old hotel so very dated. Room very compact and I must say the bathroom could have done with a good scrub. The grouting between the tiles was filthy and very tight squeeze to get in and out the bathroom. No I am not that big, it's just the space between the door and the sink is about 1 inch in old money. Breakfast was an experience, only one elderly woman looking after everybody but she made a good job of it running about like a headless chicken. I will not be staying here again.

Room Tip: Check other hotels in the area first and compare.

We arrived at 11am on Saturday and as we had paid extra for early check in we could have our room at 12. There is a coffee lounge so we thought we would wait there, no, it only opens Monday to Friday. Is there a bar? yes down the corridor, we walked down to find it closed although the sign on the door said it opened at 11. Back to reception and the receptionist went off to find the barman, he was fetching ice apparently.
Got our key at 12 and went to the room, very shabby and in dire need of renovation, wardrobe door hits the shade on the bedside lamp, bathroom tile grout full of black mould, very weak pressure on shower, hot water came through eventually. Drinks tray with tea and coffee but no biscuits, mould on the net curtains. The only reason we didn't walk out was because we were staying there for a wedding reception in the afternoon and evening so only the one night to put up with it.
Breakfast was poor, nobody there to tell us where to sit, had trouble finding a table which hadn't been sat at, mostly uncleared tables. No bacon, no butter or marmalade for toast, jam in dishes so you had to spoon it onto your plate, nobody to ask as no staff about. Won't be staying again that;s for sure.

Room Tip: Not here at all
