This is a really beautiful spot with a range of habitats and a great place for a walk or to let the kids have a run around. Autumn is a great time to see it at its best and if you are lucky you may even see the deer. Various place to eat and drink or take a picnic and get away from the crowds.

“Where the heck is it?!”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

After Sunday lunch in a pub, we decided to "walk it off" on nearby Cannock Chase. We drove along the A460, past the well-signposted Museum of Cannock Chase and another sign indicating that the "Cannock Chase Visitor Centre" was straight ahead. So we drove a drove and drove. Nothing. Eventually, when it was clear we were in another TOWN, we turned round at an island to head back the way we'd come. Almost 100% of the way back, there was a half-hidden signpost saying the Visitor Centre was to the RIGHT. (Why wasn't there a sign coming in the original direction saying it was to the LEFT? That would have been helpful!). Turning right took us to a set of traffic lights and a little square deer symbol pointing again to the right. We thought that must be it, so we turned right. We found a little car park on the right side of the road so parked up and went for a little walk. Lovely surroundings. Not many "You Are Here" points (we found one) or signposts with directions to other bits of the chase.
When I got home, I looked it up on the internet and found that where we had parked was NOT the visitor centre - that looks like it was further along the road. And it helpfully said that the square deer signs were what to "look out for". My friend and I had decided on the spur-of-the-moment to visit Cannock Chase because we were in the area. We hadn't looked it up online beforehand. It really needs to be better signposted. (Incidentally, I have been before - getting on for 8 years ago - and recall I couldn't find the entrance then either!) The pictures on the website look stunning. Shame I couldn't find any it - just the remains of an old colliery. Disappointed.

“Peace & quiet in the forest”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

A great place for walks. plenty of places to stop and get away from the crowds. Great to see deer in the wild if you are in the right place. You can park up at Milford Common and on returning from your walk sample great fish & chips form the 'Little Fawn' opposite the car park or walk further to the Barley Mow pub to quench the thirst. Can take a bike up on to the Chase, so need to be aware of other users. Great scenery.

Now I love Cannock chase every thing here wildlife cycling fishing pony trekking on the chase you have two visitors centres. one on marquise drive tells you the history. Also gifts food drinks and a place to give your pets a drink and wash you bikes. Second one forestry commission again some where for a snack and shop for cyclists here all routes are marked telling you easy routes to difficult and they are coloured. At hednesford you will find The valley heritage centre a old mining training centre a lot of history well worth a visit
