“Magnificant Manor House”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

The decor at Swinfen Hall hotel is absolutely magnificent and it's countryside surroundings is serene. Find time to walk around and see the deers. The manor house feel is comfortable with many rooms to relax in. Breakfast was amazing with conventional and more gourmet choices. The room was large with a well-lit bathroom and a great powerful shower. Water, tea & coffee facilities were available with delicious shortbread biscuits.
The only minor bad points was that the bed was too soft causing constant rolling into the middle and the flat screen TV seemed lost in such a large room as too small.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back for better countryside views

Was invited to my partners Christmas party which was private as apposed to a join a party for approx 34 guests. Had a beautiful banqueting room to ourselves. Service was superb from the moment we walked through the door. Food was really nice considering so many of us. The only negative point was we could not order drinks past 12:30am despite us staying overnight, huge loss of revenue, huge lol.

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the suites, very traditional decor.

I had the pleasure of joining a friend for lunch at Swinfen. Firstly, the approach to the Hotel, long, sweeping driveway surrounded on both sides by rolling parkland and mature oak. The reception area is amazing, high vaulted, ornately decorated ceiling. Roaring log fires to ward off the winter freeze. The staff are exceptional. Thanks to Mel, Danielle and Stuart for looking after us and making us feel so welcome. For lunch I chose the Rabbit to start, my friend chose the Terrine of Beetroot. Both dishes perfect, presentation and flavour combination superb. To accompany, a selection of warm homemade breads, mouthwatering. For main course, I had the Packington Pork, Lauren chose the Whole grilled Plaice. Again, both dishes cooked to perfection with the presentation to match. Professional and friendly service from Danielle. For Dessert, Lauren chose the Sticky Banana Bread, I passed, but the comments back were that it tasted amazing. To finish, a cup of Organic Peruvian Coffee accompanied by homemade petit fours. An end to an exceptional lunch, memorable for all the right reasons. Well done Swinfen, I will look forward to next time.

We attended a family members wedding here.
The bride loves Christmas and all the trimmings and this was a really atmospheric place to celebrate their wedding. The food was very good as was the service.
We stayed the night in a beautiful room and the only criticism we had was that the room was too hot and we couldn't open the windows.
We don't know if we would visit again as it was quite expensive and the hotel was in driving distnce from home.

My family party of eleven have just had Christmas Day lunch at Swinfen Hall. Fabulous food and the surroundings and attention of staff were perfect. It is a beautiful hotel in a lovely setting. The staff are very professional in a wonderfully understated way - you hardly know they are there but they see to your every need. We had a wonderful day. We have stayed here last year when we celebrated my husbands birthday - again a wonderful experience and the rooms are fantastic too. We've recently stayed at 2 five star hotels, The Grosvenor Chester and The Goring in London and Swinfen Hall is right up there with them for service and personal attention. Love it!

What a joy of a place! We combined a weekend break with a hospital visit and what a little gem we found. The setting was lovely and the room was very nicely appointed with a stunning view of the countryside. The staff could not have been more helpful, unusually "normal" in such sumptuous surroundings. Nothing was too much trouble: the service was impeccable and friendly. The food was absolutely world class. My wife doesn't eat meat and, surprisingly, the two fish dishes both contained meat. Absolutely no problem; the relvant alterations were made without fuss and with very acceptable variations. It was an absolute pleasure to have stayed there. One night was just not enough. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Galleried rooms are older, those on the upper floors are more modern. We loved the galleried ones.

We celebrated my son's birthday here recently and cannot fault the staff or the quality of food. We had the Taster menu of eight dishes and each one was an experience for flavour, texture and complimenting tastes.

The wine selection is substantial and there is something there for all budgets.

The best part was being able to be in a room as a family. As we have young children it was easy to pass them on to whoever and wander around if we needed knowing that we were not spoiling any other guests enjoyment.
