Our visit to Lichfield, in June, would have been a damp and dreary experience if we hadn't been staying at St Johns House. The weather was pretty awful - rain, rain and more rain - so it was great to have such a wonderfully welcoming bolthole to return to at the end of a day's damp sightseeing. The room (with access to a lovely garden) was in every respect highly satisfactory (spacious, comfortable, well-appointed, good shower and, importantly [for us warmblooded non-British folk], warm: yes, yes, I know it was summer, but an English summer. Enough said). St Johns is beautifully situated within close walking distance (armed with large umbrella - thoughtfully provided) of the city centre and the sites of interest in and around. The breakfast was heroic and delicious and the staff we encountered were charming and efficient. Certainly worth booking here if you are visiting Lichfield.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the ground floor rooms at the back in the old stable block - lovely garden to enjoy i...

First class accommodation in a lovely town. Why would anyone stay anywhere else? The room was well appointed with a most comfortable bed and excellent bathroom. All needs had been considered and met. Add to this a superb breakfast and most amiable hosts. All in all this must count as one of the top b&b experiences currently on offer.

This is a very elegant house, lovingly restored and decorated. We had the Peacock room, which was spacious, with a big comfortable bed and a very smart and modern ensuite. A lot of thought had obviously gone into the stylish and original furnishings, with an art deco touch in the mirrored dressing table. Service was generous and thoughtful- fresh milk in the fridge!- and Dan was always pleasant and ready to be helpful, despite a back injury which was causing him a lot of discomfort. The breakfast was delicious, with locally sourced sausages and bacon. St John's is very centrally situated in Lichfield and has parking round the back of the house. I'd say it was pretty well perfect, and an example of what a B&B should aim for. Much better than many hotels I've stayed in. And excellent value.

I previously knew this building as a prep school. One of my old colleagues reminded me that she had taught in every single room on the ground floor! What a wonderful surprise to find that it has changed into a special, inviting, comfortable and stylish place to stay. We came up from Bath for a party and low and behold St Johns! I cannot recommend it highly enough. Breakfast too was delicious and beautifully presented. Ros who looked after us was attentive and helpful, a delight! So now we know where to stay every time we come back to Lichfield.

My dad, my partner and I stayed at St Johns House for 4 days in late May while we explored the area and my partner photographed at the Cathedral.
Unfortunately there's little I can add to the previous reviewers.
The accommodation is quite simply superb.
The beds were super comfy and luxuriously high.
Our host couldn't have been more helpful or friendly.
The breakfast was easily the best I've ever experienced at a B&B (even other Luxury B&B's)
There was v. convenient parking and the location of the property is perfect for exploring the town.
Go on, treat yourself. You won't regret it!

I was part of a group staying for two nights. The quality of the food at breakfast and dinner was outstanding. Very high levels of service could not be faulted and the rooms were well appointed. If you seek excellence and luxury at sensible prices you should indeed look no further.
