Certainly in the top 2 places that I have eaten in Wells. Great decor and finish, friendly staff and good wine list. The menu is varied but not too much in the way of vegge choices; the menu is a little on the dear side but is just about justified as the flavours were up there.

Recommended.

My partner and I took his parents here on a Saturday evening. The place was pretty full and the atmosphere was great - we sat on the upper level, a few steps up from the main floor where the tables have wonderful views of Wells Cathedral. Service was excellent, attentive without being overbearing. I did think when the wine arrived that things might not go well as the red we had ordered for two of our party was just poured in to glasses without the offer to taste. Strangely then the white for the other two was offered to taste. Anyway, it was no big deal, just not the normal etiquette and I was concerned it was a signal that were were in for a haphazard service expereince. Not so. From there everything was superb. Food was wonderful in each course. The almond tart with rhubarb was heavenly and my father in law who is not quick to praise said his creme brulee was the best he had ever had in a restaurant. It had been a few years since our last visit and we resolved to make it a more regaulr thing.

Visited The Old Spot on Saturday 23rd March. Could only get table for 8:30 as only booked the week before. Deserves it's popularity. Good Wine List. Very good menu of around a 6-8 options for each course but well balanced and our choices were beautifully cooked and well presented.

Service was friendly, discrete and attentive without being fussy or overbearing. Wine arrived in seconds. Food was well paced and atmosphere was friendly with mixture of couples and groups in 4's or 6's.

Our table was at the back of the restaurant on a raised mezzanine which was warm and cosy on a cold winter's night. Our only recommendation to the owners would be that we would have had a great view of the floodlit Cathedral only there were 2 industrial bins parked right outside the window obscuring our view. Is there really nowhere better to park these and spoil what would otherwise be a great differentiator for your otherwise excellent restaurant?

Bill came to around £50 per head for 3 courses which makes it a good local choice for a special night out without having to trek into Bristol or Bath. In fact this place is a great reason not to have to travel further with such a quality restaurant choice on your doorstep.

Would thoroughly recommend The Old Spot.

We ate at the Old Spot to celebrate my husbands birthday on a recent visit to Wells. The service was friendly and efficient, and the food was good. Not a huge menu choice, but perhaps that's a good thing as the food was freshly cooked and tasty. Glad I left room for a Wonderful Creme Brule! Altogether an enjoyable evening!

We had a thoroughly enjoyable dinner here on our first visit to Wells.
The service was good and the atmosphere in the restaurant relaxed. There is a very good and reasonably priced wine list.
The food was amazing, all three courses were delicious. The meals were cooked to perfection and well presented. The flavours in each dish worked well together making the experience a gastronomic joy.
Highly recommended.
