“Pretty average”
Reviewed May 2, 2012

Rang up to book a table and were told they could fit us in at a certain time. When we arrived we were greeted by surly staff who complained we were late (despite the fact it was only by two minutes and there were loads of empty tables). That set the tone for the evening and the service didn't really improve. There was no house wine, the menus had pages missing and were dirty and worn. On top of that, the only other group who were eating there had a big row with the guy behind the bar, which was not good.
The table was laid out nicely, which was a positive. As for the food, it arrived on the table within minutes of it being ordered (which is great if you like fast food), but didn't fill me with confidence that all was fresh. As it was, the food wasn't anything special - just ordinary pub fare - probably a bit overpriced for the quality.
Wouldn't rush back, which is a shame because we used to go there all the time a few years ago.

“Delicious Food and Happy Staff”
Reviewed April 23, 2012

I visited the Fountain Inn with work colleagues and a client. The menu was very good, which proved difficult when it cam to selecting my dinner choices. The staff were warm & friendly, with welcome banter and great service. I thoroughly enjoyed the food. The goats cheese starter was incredible, and my steak was cooked perfectly. I only wish I lived closer to be able to visit this restaurant, as it was everything I look for when eating out. A laid back atmosphere, but this by no means meant the service was lacking. 10/10 in my book.

“Reputation well deserved...”
Reviewed April 7, 2012

You build up an appetite walking away from the city centre past the boarding houses of Wells Cathedral School, and arrive at what looks like a side street pub. At lunchtime it's busy - local, not just tourist spot. Food is listed on boards, and the Fountain is clearly concerned about good sourcing. Local, well-kept beer as well as others. According to a local magazine, fish soup is the chef''s signature dish. It isn't hard to see why. A very good warm salad as well. The Fountain isn't pretentious, but the best pubs with the best cooks don't need to be. Enjoy your visit!

“Service with a big smile”

Very good value and very good service. It would easily beat some so called top end restaurants in Wells for the food quality and there was plenty of it.
