“Great food food but slow service.”
Reviewed June 5, 2011

We dined here twice in a week as we were in Wells for a family wedding. On both occasions the food was excellent, the steaks were cooked to perfection and there were no complaints there.

However, the service was extremely slow and the staff did not follow through when they said they would do something, for example, spoons were not brought when requested, water was not delivered to the table when ordered and it took a long time whenever we asked for something.

On both occasions the service was poor but the food was excellent. Other members of our family also ate at this restaurant and the same experiences. However, the food was so good we would probably return despite the poor service.

“Lovely country town restaurant.”

Had a lovely meal here with friends, really tasty food & great staff. I loved my tartlet & the sea-bass with chorizo lentils was sensational.

“With just a little more care it could have been amazing”
Reviewed May 11, 2011

visited around Easter for lunch. The Tartlet starter was very good. I had the risotto for my main - it looked beautiful but the rice was just that little bit off being totally cooked (risotto should NOT be al-dente!) and it was too tomatoey and also had way too much cheese - I could describe it as pizza flavour, which was not quite what I wanted and very much too rich. With just a little more care - testing the food before sending it out, and holding back on the cheese it would have been wonderful.
I might go back, but I dont think Id go for risotto again. I wouldnt reccomend it to a friend in case they found their meal, like mine not to their taste.

We were pleased to hear you enjoyed your starter but sorry to hear that was not the case with your main course of risotto.

We were grateful you brought this to our attention whilst you were dining with us. You were offered an alternative dish but declined.

We hope your next visit to us is more to your taste and thank you for your comments.

“Good quality food, well presented”
Reviewed March 14, 2011

A very good menu, could have chosen most items, we settled for mussels and tartlet followed by lamb, good size portions,no room for puddings.
A reasonable wine list, efficient and friendly service completed an enjoyable evening meal.

“good food at a good price”
Reviewed March 11, 2011

we enjoyed a great 3 course meal at an all in one price. its not haute cuisine but the food was well cooked and interesting and served quickly. we had a stilton and walnut tartlet to start with that was very good. i had a slightly tasteless roasted vegetables with cous cous and a delicious lemon tart. my husband had a steak that was done to perfection with cajun flavoured chips and a chocolate cheesecake that vanished before i even had time to ask if he liked it!
well done
